The Democrats have lost on sequestration
Washington Post ^ | Friday, April 26, 2013 | Ezra Klein

Posted on 04/28/2013 12:41:42 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

That’s the simple reality of Friday’s vote to ease the pain for the Federal Aviation Administration. By assenting to it, Democrats have agreed to sequestration for the foreseeable future.

In effect, what Democrats said Friday was that in any case where the political pain caused by sequestration becomes unbearable, they will agree to cancel that particular piece of the bill while leaving the rest of the law untouched. The result is that sequestration is no longer particularly politically threatening, but it’s even more unbalanced: Cuts to programs used by the politically powerful will be addressed, but cuts to programs that affects the politically powerless will persist. It’s worth saying this clearly: The pain of sequestration will be concentrated on those who lack political power.

Democrats had other choices, of course. As Politico’s Glenn Thrush pointed out on MSNBC Friday, President Obama could’ve vetoed the FAA bill while standing at a Head Start that’s about to throw needy children out of the program. He could’ve vetoed it from the home of an jobless worker who just saw her benefits cut.

The democrats have lost, but the rest of the article is junk. The protetariat* class that Ezra claims is being hurt by the deal, were the beneficiaries of the change. Not only that, the working class* was blaming Obama, not Congress, for the delays, and so it looks like the peasants* have figured out Obama's scorched Earth sequester strategy.

*Sorry for the commie speak, but Ezra started it.

If the Washington Post says the Democrats have lost, that means they actually won.

The worm is turning. This is the second time in a week a local liberal writer has gone conservative. The other day it was a complaint about the 90% lie and this time its a liberal complaining about spending.

How would the Republicans get the truth out?

—— Most of the voters and ALL of the media have no idea that the sequestration was a not a cut in the budget, but rather a reduction of the projected budget increase.

It’s the republicans who lose on that count. They seem unwilling to stand up and tell the truth.-——

We can use this to our advantage. The public now perceives that cuts don’t affect their lives, so Republicans have carte blanche to make real cuts. When Obama pisses and moans, no one will.listen.

But the cowardly RINOs WON’T!

It’s damn frustrating.

“you wouldn’t understand”

Yes I am having trouble. But what is a jobless worker who just squats and claims he has sequestered looking for a job?

Is that a Democrat thing?

“...The pain of sequestration will be concentrated on those who lack political power.”

Numurouno on the list of cuts, 100% cuts, should be ALL foreign aid, all military aid. Or does it mean that the foreigners are politically powerful...guess so, the Usurper in Chief bows down to ‘em, especially the leaders of Saudi launched and funded terrorism.

Numuroduo should be that no one illegally in this country should get any kind of aid (Food Stamps, EBIT, educational aid etc).

Numrotres should be that EPA, Homeland Security, TSA and a few other agencies should be permanently closed.

Hey, Pubbies, show us some balls!

Head start? Head start on what? Federal socialist indoctrination? Where do we find the authorization for this in the constitution? Our children and our nation will be much better off when this unconstitutional socialist program goes into the trash bin of history where it belongs!!

Likewise with the dept of education, the labor dept, the energy dept, the USDA, HUD, Freddie, Fannie, The Fed, the war on poverty, the EPA, and the whole host of unconstitutional federal departments, agencies, commissions, programs and boondoggles. The only areas the central government should be involved in are those actually enumerated and delegated to it by the constitution and all else is reserved to the states and the people. The Washington Communist Post be damned!! FUBO!!

"How would the Republicans get the truth out?"

They could march their cowardly butts right out to the Capitol steps and hold a presser to call Obama a liar. They could call his bluff on the Sunday news shows and they could play his lies over and over again in 30 ads running around the clock.

They could point out the ineptness of a government that endangers safety by cutting air traffic controllers while at the same time paying for free Obama phones and keeping an entire department alive that is dedicated to getting more people on food stamps.

"in any case where the political pain caused by sequestration becomes unbearable, they will agree to cancel that particular piece of the bill while leaving the rest of the law untouched."

Klein couldn't be more wrong. The offending piece of the bill is not canceled at all. Instead, a bill is written allowing funds from other accounts from within the same agency to cover the loss of funds in the "politically painful" account. Any competent administrator could easily achieve this WITHOUT any bill being passed. Obama is, of course, not a competent administrator.

What is really happening is that the Republicans are calling Obama's bluff, and offering a bill that simply proves Obama's incompetence. It's proof that the Boehner sequestration strategy has been quite effective, and Obama is caving. You won't see that said in the legacy media.
