NYTIMES CONFIRMS: MASSIVE FRAUD AT USDA IN PIGFORD; BREITBART VINDICATED
Big Government ^ | 26 Apr 2013 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 04/26/2013 3:02:43 PM PDT by neverdem

The New York Times reported Friday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has likely enabled massive fraud in the Pigford series of legal settlements, in which black, Hispanic, female and Native American farmers have claimed to be victims of past discrimination.

The cost of the settlements, which could exceed $4.4 billion, is the result of a process that "became a runaway train, driven by racial politics, pressure from influential members of Congress and law firms that stand to gain more than $130 million in fees," the Times notes. Among those influential members of Congress was then-Senator Barack Obama, who made Pigford payouts a priority in exchange for political support for his 2008 presidential campaign among a coveted group of black voters in the rural South, the Times reports.

As president, Obama continued to support payouts for new groups of claimants while abandoning a review process that had been used to fight fraud. The aim was "buying the support" of minorities, according to the Times, while middlemen created a "cottage industry" in defrauding the government.

--snip--

Yet the Times documents how Pigford became a "magnet for fraud" across the South. "In 16 ZIP codes in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and North Carolina," LaFraniere writes, "the number of successful claimants exceeded the total number of farms operated by people of any race in 1997, the year the lawsuit was filed. Those applicants received nearly $100 million." The government let many of the fraudulent claims slip by unpunished because "the bar for a successful claim was so low that it was almost impossible to show criminality."...

I have never understood why someone wants to play victim, I want my buys to be strong and get on with life not hang about not working and living off welfare moaning about how they have been put down

You and your family are normal.

But government policy has been in the practice of creating abnormal families ever since the War on Poverty began.

Millions of families now have three (or more generations) with little (or no) work experience. They don't know how to work! They don't know how to be independent! And they have no respect for people who do work and are independent.

I hesitate to say "It's not their fault". The government made them do it, you might say. But, still, they have eyes, they have ears, they should have some sense of self-dignity...and they have free will.

What it boils down to is the government has subsidized the weakest willed among us. And, sure enough, we've got more of them...

Buying the support of minorities. It is breath taking the way they operate. They rarely even bother to hide their actions any more, they just call it something that sounds good and wave their hands - nothing to see here - go watch American Idol.

Makes me want to vomit.

ALINSKY: Hell would be heaven for me... Once I get into hell, I'll start organizing the have-nots over there.

Alinsky is pretty flippant about it all but in the end he most likely has gotten his wish.

Probably the only thing he is faced with "organizing" in hell these days is his next agonizing scream - and that will go on forever...

Any doubt why America is failing? The corruption extends all the way from the top of the Federal Government right down to a huge population of Americans.

This is called a sophisticated sack. Money is being taken by Third World governors from those who founded, built up and managed this country and given to those who cannot create or manage themselves much less govern us. Of course, we abdicated our right to govern in 2008.

thanks for that about my family.
I grew up in foster homes, and off foster parents who only did it for the money.
Everything was on the Govt, housing, my lunch money at school , even clothes but I still remember going to school and not having lunch and back then it was like a raffle ticket because I was embarrassed.
As soon as I left school I joined the military and wanted out, I hated where I grew up and the druggies etc around me.
I know I should have gone on and done better at school but I learned from that and I am telling my kids that they cannot afford to muss college, no mess about and do well right now so they have a better job and not have to work all hours to make money .

My kids are doing well and understand they need to put in the hard work and they will reap what they sow so to speak.

I took them to a really trashy meth lab type trailer park and then drove them to a nice area with beautiful houses.

I then pulled over and asked them what they liked best and of course they all said the nice houses.

I told them that if they want that then they have to do well and get the work done and you know what it worked.

As for victim, well , I know kids will always call names here and there though my kids do get along with others but if you are called a name so what, it’s a word , and in the end you know better.

I agree that those on the welfare today have no idea because many are raised in the victim mentality and think easy street is the victim card.

One only has to look at the black community to see how it has been destroyed and sadly many in that community do not see it because it’s easier to blame others for their lazy approach to life.

Sorry for the long rant LOL

NYTIMES CONFIRMS: MASSIVE FRAUD AT USDA IN PIGFORD; BREITBART VINDICATED

A story in the New York Times doesn't vindicate Breitbart any more than a story in the Weekly World News would have vindicated Breitbart. Breitbart was the one with credibility, not the other way around.

sadly, is the work ethic even worthwhile anymore?.....I feel that we workers are just the biggest fools in the world....we won’t get Medicare....we won’t get SS....our kids still paying off college loans because we didn’t get minority “scholarships” and loans meant for the “poor”, not the working or middle classes..

The size of this scandal easily makes this the largest "crooked deal" in the history of our nation.

It also, makes it one of, if not the largest, political spoils scandal in the recorded history of organized nations. Just off the top of my head I cannot place a larger Gov't approved "deal" which surpasses this.

The unique thing about this is:
1) It has been identified as a "Crooked Deal" since its inception
2) People have actually reaped $$$s from this
3) No one has, so far, been brought to 'justice' and had to re-pay any money
4) The sickening silence of the general media

Hate to say it...but...America...you are so screwed.

The New York Times is ON THE CASE, 5 or 6 years too late,
predictably. But we should take whatever we can get-—maybe
these revelations will put a little crimp in Obama’s bid 4 a THIRD term. /sarc

People willingly play “victim” because they have been convinced that somewhere down the road there is the potential 4 $$ in it, or the potential 4 membership in the beleagured minority club, where their own inertia, lassitude, and lack o* ambition can be translated into victimhood , as in “we wouldn’t be this way i* it weren’t 4 you, driving by and staring at us”.
This has been a trend that’s been going on 4 decades.
This victim constituency has at last been given it’s IDEAL
President in Barack Obama, now launched into his 5th year as their “leader”.
These “have-nots” still seem to be getting some kind o* vicarious thrill about watching the spectacle o* Obama and Mooshy gobble up taxpayer’s money, living the lives o* King and Queen, while the vics themselves still remain have-nots.
But Have-nots who have OBAMA-PHONES!!!

Here is a quote from the NYT article that is especially egregious. The fraud has become a cottage industry, and there is a man profiled in the article who runs around harvesting "discrimination claims" for a fee. The quote largely speaks for itself.

“The Department of Agriculture admitted that it discriminated against every black person who walked into their offices,” he told the crowd. “They said we discriminated against them, but we didn’t keep a record. Hello? You don’t have to prove it.”

In fact, he boasted, he and his four siblings had all collected awards, and his sister had acquired another $50,000 on behalf of their dead father.

She cinched the claim, he said to a ripple of laughter, by asserting that her father had whispered on his deathbed, “I was discriminated against by U.S.D.A.”

“The judge has said since you all look alike, whichever one says he came into the office, that’s the one to pay — hint, hint,” he said. “There is no limit to the amount of money, and there is no limit to the amount of folks who can file.”

He closed with a rousing exhortation: “Let’s get the judge to go to work writing them checks! They have just opened the bank vault.”
