Former President George W. Bush says he isnt interested in playing on the national political stage any longer. But for family, hes making an exception.
Asked in an interview with ABC News Diane Sawyer whether he thinks his brother former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush should run for president in 2016, the ex-president was unequivocal.
Hed be a marvelous candidate if he chooses to do so. He doesnt need my counsel cause he knows what it is, which is run, the elder Bush brother said about Jebs possible candidacy, in an interview that first aired Wednesday on World News with Diane Sawyer. But whether he does or not, its a very personal decision.
The former president even allowed himself to picture the potential 2016 matchup: Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton. It would be a family rematch of the 1992 election, when George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton.
Itll be a fantastic photo here. It would certainly eclipse the museum and the center, Bush said on the eve of the formal opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University, just outside Dallas. Im interested in politics. Im, you know, Im fascinated by all the gossip and stuff that goes on. But the field wont be become clear til after the midterms.
Asked for a word of advice to the Republican Party, the former president struck an optimistic note amid rounds of GOP soul-searching: You will exist in the future, he said with a smile.
On several major issues, though, Bush made clear hes staying away from day-to-day political battles.

He doesn’t even rise to that level.
The times do make the man. The Reagan who ran for president in 1976 was not at all the man we remember as the best president in well over a century. What we need is the Reagan of 1979, someone with the moral character, oratorical skills, and potential to become a great leader. Sarah Palin may be that leader, and there are about a half dozen others who are possibilities. I don't think Rand Paul is on that list, but I would support him enthusiastically if none of my top tier choices showed unmistakable signs of running - better than getting stuck with this year's Dole/McCain/Romney clone!
America does not need royal families. We do not need the American version of the War of the Roses.
No mas!
What Paul dynasty are you talking about? And were you not a big bush fan in 1999 when Bush was running in the primaries? I seem to recall FR being all in for Bush in 2000 and 2004.
The RNC death wish lives on.
No Bushes, and NO RETREADS....everyone who ran the last two times have had their chance, time to move aside.
well to me medium ochre is nauseating enough
Perfection is the enemy of good enough, and I set the bar pretty low for politicians in the interest of winning, and because in the real world you seldom get what you want. But Jeb Bush on a step ladder still couldn't reach that bar, low as it is.
paul mccartney
Not eligible.
Never going to happen. Guaranteed Republican defeat.
No..........
John McCain 3.0
Ditto.
lol, good one!
if hillary and jeb teamed up they would be unbeatable
But America would be beaten.
Ron Paul. Rand would otherwise be unheard of. And, no, I was infamously NOT a Bush dynasty fan in the 2000 primaries. Maybe you missed that. And perhaps you missed that there were no (viable) primary challengers to Bush in 2004.
Americans have, to a large degree, become politically polarized into opposing and uncompromising Utopian views
They also loose sight of the fact that the President is only one person and the government is made up of tens of thousands of individuals and many are appointees.
Any Republican is going to appoint at the least center right appointees or probably more conservative because that's the Republican Party.
Any Democrat President is going to appoint exactly what Obama has appointed, Radical to Far Left, because that's the Democrat Party.
There is a huge difference between the Democrat Political Class and the Republican Political Class.
