George W. Bush Tells Jeb to ‘Run,’ Says Jeb vs. Hillary Would Make ‘Fantastic Photo’ [VIDEO]
ABC News ^ | 4-24-2012 | Rick Klein

Former President George W. Bush says he isn’t interested in playing on the national political stage any longer. But for family, he’s making an exception.

Asked in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer whether he thinks his brother former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush should run for president in 2016, the ex-president was unequivocal.

“He’d be a marvelous candidate if he chooses to do so. He doesn’t need my counsel ’cause he knows what it is, which is ‘run,’ ” the elder Bush brother said about Jeb’s possible candidacy, in an interview that first aired Wednesday on “World News with Diane Sawyer.” “But whether he does or not, it’s a very personal decision.”

The former president even allowed himself to picture the potential 2016 matchup: Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton. It would be a family rematch of the 1992 election, when George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton.

“It’ll be a fantastic photo here. It would certainly eclipse the museum and the center,” Bush said on the eve of the formal opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University, just outside Dallas. “I’m interested in politics. I’m, you know, I’m fascinated by all the gossip and stuff that goes on. But the field won’t be become clear ’til after the midterms.”

Asked for a word of advice to the Republican Party, the former president struck an optimistic note amid rounds of GOP soul-searching: “You will exist in the future,” he said with a smile.

On several major issues, though, Bush made clear he’s staying away from day-to-day political battles.

The Bushs have not been great adherents to the intent of the Founders for an enduring USA. Reagan recognized this but had to some compromising to get nominated and elected. When I hear any Bush speak to the intent of the Founders I might change my opinion. It will be interesting to see how this year’s 4th of July celebrations are played out by all the real and unreal patriots.

Off topic, but whats hurts me most is what has happened to the military under Obama.

I look back to my dad's military, again, under Reagan, and the swell of pride I feel is uncontainable. The blatant unapologetic patriotism, no gays pushing their crap down your throat, no women in combat...The selling point back then was the raw power of our military, now every commercial I see is about delivering aid. It appealed to patriotism, love of country, to the concept of joining freedom's arsenal. Now the navy's motto is "a global force for good." The army has ordered every soldier to dremil off the bible verse in the serial numbers of trijicom scopes. Several units have been told that Evangelical Christians are the greatest extremist threat facing America. And of course, under Obama the gays and feminists have been unfettered.

I could cry. Oh, the good old days...How did it happen? When? Why? I find myself baffled by these questions. It is all so surreal.

OK guys, we have to get behind someone NOW.

It's down to Cruz and Sarah, as far as I can see, and I don't think Sarah will run.

Rubio and Ryan are too establishment, and Paul is too libertarian.

Who else is there that's viable?

I won’t vote for JB in the primaries, and if he get’s the nomination, I’ll leave it blank because of where I live...Kalifornia.

Yeah, I know. Not in the mood for the natural born citizen argument.

Not many alternatives left.

They also loose sight of the fact that the President is only one person and the government is made up of tens of thousands of individuals and many are appointees.

OTOH, look what a committed conservstive (Reagan) and a committed communist (Obama) can do.

Well, Eff that as well.

The Bush's are milquetoast.

They can't fight because they cannot identify our enemies or our borders.

I was just making the point that not imagining a room of people chanting a guy’s name is no reason why he couldn’t be the nominee.

It’s actually rare in politics to have a room chanting someone’s name. Who chanted Kerry or Gore’s name? Or McCain or Dole? Or Dukakis or Mondale?

Charismatic candidates like Reagan or Obama that people actually get behind and want to vote for are rather rare.

I very much enjoy your letting me express my opinions here. So I am not going to engage you in debate since those that do have a high Freeper mortality rate. I will risk saying that I do not understand the anti Rand Paul stuff, he seems to me to be a good conservative. I’ll just leave it at that.

I do not want Jeb. That said, it will be Jeb because conservatives have no candidate working on that job starting yesterday. Just throwing up a few candidates in the primaries against Jeb, with no funding, will be a total waste and only allow Jeb to win.

I am done with that. A million bucks here or there is not going to get the job done.

Obama is NOT charismatic. That is a line totally invented by the media and people too stupid to think for themselves said "He's charismatic? If so, I'd better vote for him! And he's black too! I'm so hip voting for a black man! Maybe my kids will think i'm kewl!"

A reporter interviewing Moozilla asked what it is like to married to a sex-symbol. The media types masturbate to Obama. They worship him. Nothing they say about him is accurate because they cannot view him objectively. His "star power" blinds them, voluntarily on their part.

Jeb Bush was best Governor that Florida has had in my lifetime.

Elian Gonzalez and Terri Schiavo might disagree with you. If they could.
