A startling home-made video now shows the terrifying moments where Watertown residents were forced out of their homes at gunpoint as SWAT teams performed door-to-door searches as they hunted the second marathon bomber. While millions of Bostonians waited in their houses on Friday during the city-wide lockdown, the people of Watertown were faced with SWAT officers yelling at them to get out of the buildings immediately.

So, ACLU, are these searches still legal and constitutional? Shouldn’t they let the people stay in their homes to witness the searches, or do they want to ransack the places unobserved? Pretty cowardly for well-armored jackboots, I say.
To: Biggirl
I don’t believe we need SWAT teams or no-knock raids. There was a 2:00am raid on my rental unit by 12 machinegun carrying, fully armored deputies. They knocked down MY front door. They were after a drunk, elderly couple that were growing 48 18” tall pot plants.
Earlier that day, there had been 3 deputies there and the couple was falling down drunk. The deputies saw the plants, but didn’t arrest these two elderly idiots. They waited for a no-knock raid.
Why? At a guess, overtime. Also, why have a SWAT team if you don’t use it? I was really annoyed.
I’m grateful they didn’t drive their armored car though my rental unit.

YEP!
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The second terrorist was caught by (an otherwise scourged) smoker, risking his very life for a smoke, not by someone huttled in there cast iron bath tub trying to sip green tea -quietly shuuush!
Then, same guy braves a ladder to take a peak, couldn’t call in something so trivial as his boat cover laying funny.
Steeple don’t matter, they don’t make a difference! Never did.

So, ACLU, are these searches still legal and constitutional? ACLU is hibernating until the next Republican admin. Come back later.

What about having warrants before searching?

I just don’t see how a K-9 and his handler could not track this guy? I’ve seen a dog find a rock tossed down a hillside by its owner come back with the very same rock. Sometimes it took a while, but he always found it. In this case the dog had blood and maybe clothes, yet unable to track. Just saying..

Reported by a foreign press. Where’s ours?

They weren't "FORCED" out of their homes at gunpoint......they were asked to leave their homes and were personally escorted by law enforcement officials for their own protection........
(maybe because a terrorist was in the neighborhood who just may have had another big bomb in his posession?)
Many of the replies on the crap threads like this makes FR look like the right wing equivalent of DU.............Sheesh!

I understand that the perp may have forced himself into a person’s home and taken someone hostage. So in that case if I answered the door, if they weren’t pointing guns at me and yelling at me to get out, I would let them search FOR THE PERP ONLY. No need to treat me like a criminal in my own home and no need to look for anything other than the perp.
To: Biggirl
How many time have you seen the plot where the nice homeowner tells the cops they haven't seen the bad guys - while the bad guys have guns trained on them from inside the house? Or the homeowner doesn't know the bad guy is hiding there, as was the case with the boat owner?
Having the civilians out of the house during the search is for their own safety.

“I just dont see how a K-9 and his handler could not track this guy?”
Ditto, ditto, and ditto.
I can think of only two reasons, neither of which are worth a crap:
1. Muslims are sensitive about dogs, therefore no dogs - or
2. A bunch of cowboy want-to-be’s just had to run down the street in all their paraphernalia. No sense letting Fido have all the credit when we look so good going hut, hut, hut.

We need to get rid of SWAT teams. Also, we need to stop this war on drugs. I don't like drugs, I never took any illegal drugs in my life nor would I, but it is time to end it. As long as the pot smokers are not at the wheel of a car or some other vehicle, operating heavy machinery and/or making life and death decisions for the country, it is no skin off my nose. We should not have no-knock raids at all, if someone fired back because of it, it is a legit form of self-defense. IIRC, I remember a "Picket Fences" episode where a drug dealer shot and killed three cops on a no-knock raid and the sheriff was on the jury and he argued the case the perp used his Uzi in self-defense since he did not know they were police. To the perp, it could have been another criminal or the "bogey man."
Getting back to more matters here, I'd hate to be kicked out of my home because of something like this, I'd rather be there to watch them search as well as protect Mom and my cats. At least tell the people to hide in their basement or away from windows or something.
I mean if the shoe was on the other foot, how would they like it if we crashed down their doors and yell "boogedy, boogedy?!"
As I get older, I get more libertarian.
