About several dozen shots were fired. It sounded like a volley of semiautomatics. Early this morning,the state police flew a helicopter around the search area for hours. They stopped early in the afternoon. Late in the afternoon two helicopters began flying a wider search area. About one half hour into that, I heard the volley of shots. Then sirens.
