With Vice President Joe Biden presiding over the Senate, an amendment to expand background checks on gun purchases failed to pass through the body, falling by a mostly partisan vote of 54-46.
President Barack Obama will speak at the White House at 5:30 p.m. on the failure, the White House said.

everyoen is applauding hter decision but the plain truith of the matter is that htis bill shoudl NEVER have goen to the floor in the first place because it was a capitualtion to the left indicatign to them thwat this unconstitutional law was ok to brign to the floor for a vote- Yuo can bet the farm that this trial balloon was an attempt to get the republicans to ALLOW the floor vote and that future Unconstitutional bills WILL be brought to the floor now thatthey know that the republicans don’t have spien enough to say “No way are you bringign an unconstitutional law to the floor for a vote- we will NOT betray the American peopel that way!”

Now that they were successful gettign the UNCONSTITUTIONAL bill to the floor- this has set a precedent that the left can bringm ore andm ore UNCONSTITUTIONAL bills to hte floor until they get one or several through thanks to traitorous republicans
The republicans BETRAYED the American peopel by allowign this to go to the floor for a vote- they had a PERFECT opportunity to send a very clear message that they would NOT betray the peopel by allowing an UNCONSTITUTIONAL bill to make it to the floor- but they refused to do what they were elected to do- protect our rights!
