Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed surprise and disappointment last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral.
Whitehall sources have revealed that the U.S. delegation at tomorrows service in St Pauls Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz.
Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle.
The Queens decision to attend Lady Thatchers funeral has effectively elevated it to a state occasion unprecedented for a political figure in Britain since the death of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.....

The man is totally classless.
I don’t want to spit on his grave, just take a nice healthy bean, ham, and brussel sprout dump on it. After all placing that toxic SOB in the ground will sterilize it forever, with out proper fertilizing.
Johnson apparently didn’t send anyone to Churchill’s funeral either. But Obama made sure we were represented at Chavez’ go-away party. Par for the course when it comes to Democrats.
The man is just a lump of fecal matter.
(for the sake of comparison, Thatcher in declining health attended Reagan’s funeral, as did PM Tony Blair).
Well said.
“Actually, I am quite pleased to hear that. The presence of anyone from the Obama regime at Lady Thatchers funeral would be an insult to her memory.”
I’m in total agreement. Our imposter president certainly isn’t good enough to attend the funeral of such a great leader. And Thank God his trashy wife isn’t going in his place!
This affair is by invitation only....the family's wishes on who will be invited come first although the family works closely with the government on making up the list.
You can make book that Obama and his klutz wife were NOT INVITED....but with typical Brit tact, there will be diplomatic openings for the Obamas to make it look like THEY had made their own decision not to attend.
Like the unpopular girl who wasn't invited to the prom saying she hadn't wanted to go in the first place.
Leni
Yep. In this particular instance, though, we seem to be well-served by that fact.
I'm rather stunned that at the very least, FLOTUS didn't squeeze another expensive holiday abroad out of this.
Obama, as is typical for socialists, is uncultured, not a gentleman, petulant, fawning over those who are brutes, and disdainful of those who are his betters.
He is a crude man, a boor, crass, and immature.
Lady Thatcher’s respects would not be improved by his attendance, nor by that of his proxies. His destiny, his legacy, is just a footnote reflecting his sloth and irresponsibility. He was a minor president of small consequence, whose efforts did not improve our nation.
No, they actually were:
The White House is in talks with Downing Street about who will represent the U.S. government at St Paul’s Cathedral next Wednesday.
All living presidents have been invited by Lady Thatcher’s family, but neither George W Bush nor his father are able to come, and Hillary Clinton looks likely to represent her husband Bill.
Given the Iron Lady’s close relationship with Ronald Reagan, whose wife Nancy is too frail to travel, the Obamas have not ruled out attending to pay their respects.
“What a small, petulent, childish punk our president is”
I think that’s the best description I’ve seen of him.
Good. No one from the her days would want that greasy slimball there in the first place. I don’t.
But I’m sure The Great Prevaricator sent a few DVDs of his great speeches to the Thatcher family.
What a classless, shameless boor we have running this nation.
Maybe if they had nice sandy tropical beaches and drinks with little straws....
That would draw The Great Vacationer, I must admit.
Margaret Thatcher:
more of a lady than moochelle,
more of a man than barack.
The Chicago thug comes out with this classless act.
As usual, Obama is a classless pig.
