The Republican plan to block debate on Senate Bill 649, which requires background checks on almost all gun purchases and transfers, failed spectacularly Thursday morning when sixteen Republican Senators joined almost all of the Democrats to vote in favor opening debate on the bill. Among those voting to defeat the filibuster were 9 Democrats with A ratings from the National Rifle Association, and 12 A-rated Republicans (out of 16 Republican ayes). Two Democrats, Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK), joined the majority of Republican Senators who tried to prevent debate, much less a vote, on the bill.
The plan to filibuster the gun reform measure was met with vocal resistance from some Republicans who, even if they disagree with the policy, felt it deserved debate and a straight up-or-down vote. Going into the vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he felt confident he had the 60 votes required to overcome a filibuster, but he wasnt certain. As it turned out, it wasnt even close. The effect of the Newtown parents lobbying efforts this week cannot be underestimated, and todays vote could be a good omen for gun reform.
The Republicans who voted to debate the bill were Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN, NRA rating=A), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH, NRA rating=A), Richard Burr (R-NC, NRA rating=A), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA, NRA rating=A), Tom Coburn (R-OK, NRA rating=A), Susan Collins (R-ME, NRA rating=C+), Bob Corker (R-TN, NRA rating=A), Jeff Flake (R-AZ, NRA rating=A), Lindsey Graham (R-SC, NRA rating=A), Dean Heller (R-NV, NRA rating=A), John Hoeven (R-ND, NRA rating=A), Johnny Isakson (R-GA, NRA rating=A), Mark Kirk (R-IL, NRA rating=F), John McCain (R-AZ, NRA rating=B+), Pat Toomey (R-PA, NRA rating=A) and Roger Wicker (R-MS, NRA rating=A+).

Like college professors, they have had (arguably) worse material to work with. The 'curve' is skewed to the low end.
Reading the link you sent and the NRA ILA news page, i see nothing except they are “planning” to challenge the Maryland law.
There are times when gay men stick together on issues...this is one of them. Obozo and Graham see eye to eye on this one...Graham is a RINO and a traitor to We the People...he can’t be trusted ever. Nor can Boehner and others.

Easily pass the Senate and now probably the house as well.
A few of the so-called conservative Senators who voted to stop a filibuster will probably vote against the bill itself in the final version in order to placate the gun owners back home, all the time knowing that the Dems can pass it easily without their help now that a filibuster os off the table.
I never doubted that it would pass in the Senate where Pubs only hold 45 seats, some of whom are liberals at heart when the folks back home aren't watching. But certainly not with the help of 21 treacherous Pubs who I hope and pray will be forever remembered as traitorous turncoats by gun owning voters and conservatives in general in their states. I still have a small remnant of hope for the house, but zero confidence in the master of compromise, aka Speaker Boehnor.
If the house doesn't put the kibosh on the final version after scores of amendments are added in the Senate, a version which I guarantee will be far worse than the current version which is only a pale ghost of the final offering, it's all over but the orgasmic shouting by the ant-American lefties who worship at Obummer's feet and fervently hate both the 2nd Amendment, the US Constitution in toto, and all gun owners regardless of race, color, or creed. All we can do now is put as much pressure as possible on our people in the House and pray to almighty God for the future of our progeny who must live somehow in this rapidly self-destructing nation after we're gone.
SC voters are certainly not uninformed.. We know Grahamnesty is not a Conservative
People! Have faith. These guys are playing chess, not checkers. They only voted for cloture. This puts the spotlight on the red-state Democrats facing re-election in 2014. This is a very, very, very tough place for them to be in. And nothing that manages to pass the Senate is likely to be taken up by the House.

“The NRA bootlickers will be along any minute now telling us how great the NRA is in protecting our rights. WRONG.”...

Why are you yelling at me?

It is very clear the Capitol Hill STAFFERS are all watching MSNBC along with senators as their PRIMARY/ONLY news source.
They do not want to see FNC, Blaze or even CNN as a news center point. Its all left wing all the time.
This is why it is John “I don’t understand” McCain.
Those three “D” senators are all going to fight back with raging pork payoffs.
The medium is the message.
the message for captiol hill is msnbc REGARDLESS of content.
Secondly, if it were a lecture, you would know it. That was a call asking people to step up and use the tool.
..geez
Some GOP helped craft the original Assault Weapons Ban 20 years ago.....former POTUS Ronald Reagan helped as well..btw...surprised?
And George Bush II repeatedly promised to sign it if renewed.
The GOP is inherently wobbly and latently progressive.....always has been
Today simply the lesser of two evils
Oh but how some like things simple....to hell with historical accuracy
I was in secondary school during Reagan. I was a Freshman in high school when the AWB was signed. I don’t support GWB on more than 50% of his politics. I’ve only tangentially supported the GOP. I’ve always been a history-minded Constitutional conservative since I was a junior in high school on the debate team.
I support the NRA on over 90% of their political dealings. In general, they get it right. This latest development is unacceptable by the standards of any pro-gun, American Constitutionalist.
btw, that street sign is muy interesante. This wild rumpus is what they are doing on the 18th.
NRA wasn’t scoring the cloture vote. A real sell out move by the NRA.
As of 1330 EDT, Friday April 12 2013 ...
NRA has done NOTHING to sanction the 21 NRA 'A' rated, endorsed senatorial traitors and domestic enemies of the Constitution.
Absolutely NOTHING.
Shame on you, Chris Cox.
