From the air, SkyFOX captured an enormous amount of activity in the area of Chestnut near 15th Street in Center City. On the ground FOX 29 cameras were there as police moved in and arrested more than a dozen teens after a fight between two girls grew into a melee involving nearly 200.
"It got crazy. Everybody was pushing and shoving," said Nicholas Adams. The sneaker store where he worked even locked its doors.
Adams said, "We didn't want them running into our store knocking stuff over. We had people inside the store who we didn't want to let out because we didn't want them to get trampled."
Lakia Garrick watched it from her job at Wendy's on the corner.
"All of a sudden, all these kids just started running in here. Then the cops came in and cleared the store out and told us we can't serve nobody until they cleared downtown," Garrick said.
As police cleared the street and dispersed crowds of people watching, some of the teens also got violent with them.
"Bottles were thrown at police but no injuries to police," said Chief Inspector Cynthia Dorsey.
Gilbert Hernandez had a clear view of it all from the window of his pizza shop. "I saw them running back and forth, back and forth."
Most in the area say they see this every year and it was only a matter of time before it happened again.
"We were waiting for it. Every time it gets warm out they just act crazy," said Lakia.
Police say about three schools in the area were letting out around the time the brawl happened. Bike cops already in the area acted quickly to restore order. Police are looking to step up presence even more in wake of what happened.

My daughter and a friend of hers from college went to see Les Miz last night downtown. I felt bad having to warn her that if she sees a large group of black females, don’t hesitate, just run.
There is a certain insanity going on right now in our inner core cities.
we need to get our Liberty Bell out of Philly before it gets trashed!
Shame on me.
I didn’t even have to go to pictures to know......
Chestnut and 15th used to be the intersection with the posh jewellers Bailey Banks and Biddle on one side and a fashionable women’s store, Bonwit Teller, on the other. Now it’s just an outdoor stripmall of downmarket chain stores.
Rumspringa...............
Oh, it’s just kids with spring fever..... now, now.....
Obama....Those are my sons !!! I told them to bring guns...not knives....
Ain’t none of been raised in the proper sense of the word.
I bet there were only 10 kids. Philly is so good at counting, as we learned in the recent November election
Yeah, with 100% for Obama in 59 of that city’s districts.
The bookstores and libraries report they were completely undisturbed.
“You mean it is probably not a good idea to tour the major urban areas of the US this summer?”
Is it ever?
A machine gun would have broken it up nicely.
There are no retail stores within two blocks all around. Hope they keep it that way.
Fixed.
I have been following some of these rioting groups on Twitter. Citizen reports love to get in the middle of these things and post to sites that will run their footage.
There is an increase in this sort of behavior- so it is becoming more acceptable and therefore more predictable.
I feel badly for these kids, on one hand- because the have been primed and conditioned into this thug mentality.
Their government has let them down, their society has let them down, their education and culture have let them down- they have no hope- no savior and all they know is death.
Social Media has exalted them, the movies glamorize the violence..
AND the adults around them are all pushing for MORE death- and MORE chaos and MORE destruction of anything civilized.
I just pray that anyone in these crowds, with a mustard seed of faith in God or love for Jesus, will come out of that beast... and be saved.
What a mess.
