Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will need to raise $100 million over the next 20 months if she hopes to clear the field of serious Democratic challengers, top Democratic operatives say.
“I would think you’d want an eye popping number to clear the field,” said one senior Democratic official. “I think the $100 million commitment would say to potential opponents ‘think before you jump to your death.’”
Clinton herself does not have to raise the cash to clear the field of effective rivals, explains one Clinton insider, “If a super PAC raises $75 million to $125 million in the next two years, that’s formidable and it indicates that there is really strong support [for her].”
Clinton remains among the best-regarded figures in American politics and any potential rival would be forced to spend massive amounts of time and money to compete. But Clinton insiders say she won’t leave anything to chance if she runs, and in preparation, neither are they.
In the first quarter of 2007 Clinton reported a fundraising total of $36 million, including a $10 million transfer from her Senate campaign. She was ahead of then-Sen. Barack Obama, but not by much — he had raised nearly $26 million, almost entirely from individual donors.

Hillary get lost, quickly.
Hillary took the fall for Benghazi and Obama made the deal to clear the field. Even Biden is ceding to Hillary. What the GOP needs to do is go on a campaign now outside the beltway about her incompetence. Force her to blame Obama and the deal is off.
I don’t see what difference it makes. The RNC hierarchy has purged conservatives from the party. If you thought McCain and Romney were unelectable, wait until they unveil the next RINO-du-jour.
I'm as amazsed as anyone else about the very early push for Hillary but even more, the roll-out of Chelsea for her place in line.................

Incredible respect for these two selfless public servants who continue to eschew the riches and temptations of the private sector for a simple life of good works - without ever seeking credit or favor - as they keep the home fires burning via their loving, tender, affectionate relationship. They are rarely away from each other’s side for more than a few hours, so close is their bond. But who can blame Bill for his devotion to Hillary given her personal warmth, smiling eyes, and womanly, compassionate nature? Always ready with a kind word, she. No rough-and-tumble politics for them, thank you - they prefer a quiet moment alone where, as kindred intellectuals, they can discuss their favorite off-beat subjects such as 18th Century Latvian poets.
They have produced additional greatness in the form of Chelsea, who is by all accounts a brilliant, accomplished, glib, quick-witted charmer, to say nothing of her film-star looks which require little makeup and betray no hint of cosmetic surgery. True, she’s generated some jealousy around NBC by running rings around established, experienced journalists with her just-the-facts approach and ability to speak expertly on subjects from nuclear reactors to Formula One transmissions to stopping the spread of zebra mussels but she’s merely following the lead of her well-rounded parents.
Elect Hillary - How many more people have to die?
