Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- If you think 2013 will be a half-baked year for tourism in Seattle, you haven't been paying attention to the curiously pungent smoke signals emanating from this city.
On a recent chilly evening, an unmistakable smell has drifted across the street from an industrial space in the SODO neighborhood. Inside, a DJ spins an eclectic mix of rock while a man in a tie-dyed hoodie distributes cannabis-infused buttered rum and root beer-flavored hard candy to a diverse crowd of revelers. Another volunteer passes around a 12-foot-long "vape bag" filled with marijuana vapor -- one way to get around the city's indoor smoking ban.
Four glassblowers demonstrate the art of making bongs while attendees sip beer, munch on Greek meatballs, and dip an assortment of fruit, marshmallows and gummy worms in chocolate fountains.
If only the party wasn't running low on grilled cheese sandwiches.
This "Member's Frolic," hosted by the organizers of a huge "protestival" called Hempfest, is but a fraction of the size of the annual pro-pot rally that drew an estimated 250,000 people to the Seattle waterfront last August.
But with last year's legalization of recreational marijuana use for adults in both Colorado and Washington State, the gathering offers a telling preview of how a creative counterculture may be poised to go mainstream and reap the rewards of a new "green economy" based on pot tourism.
Just imagine how much the food truck vendors are salivating.

Seattle is a ridiculous city full of fags, dopeheads, idiot environmentalists and other morons who can’t earn a living.
That said...I hear Portland is worse. Hard to believe, but that’s what I hear.
Isn’t Seattle the home of the great (or once great) Microsoft?
Maybe we should encourage one single state to legalize virtually everything they can think of, then we can isolate the stupid in one place.
And in Louisiana, the father loses custody of his kids for a pot possession charge. Yay! They made it to Cuba yesterday.
“Being lefty, clueless, and high is no way to go through life Son.”
When will they be demanding FED aid to deal with the conseauences?
If the normal decent citizen ever wakes up and acts they have a lot of cleaning to do.
Given some recent polling data that I’ve seen regarding the public’s view of issues such as legalizing drugs, same sex marriage, and more restrictive gun laws, I can only conclude that I am now part of the counterculture, because I am no longer in the majority. A complete disconnect. I’ve felt this way since November 4, 2008——A day which will live in infamy IMHO.
Smoke all you want on vacation. Your employer can still fire you for that use. Potheads didn’t shout when employers asserted that they could even fire employees who use TOBACCO in their off hours.
Vancouver was the Pot Vacation Capital of North America for about a decade or more. Seattle is just getting in on the act.
Let’s not forget the “medical marijuana” crowd in states like California and Colorado and the direction their governments are headed.
Suburban Seattle - Redmond, or “East Side” is where Microsoft resides. Not exactly the same thing, in local parlance. Many people in Seattle look down their noses at “Eastsiders”, I kind of like them, myself (not a pro or anti Microsft message). Thanks.
They were all suffering from Pernicious Dandruff because everyone knows it’s only really sick people who smoke pot.
That sounds pretty threatening
The sad thing is they do earn a living and make quite a bit of money. Probably why they have such a god complex thinking they know best. However, give a few more years of the steady flow of Somalis immigrating to Kent county and Seattle will decline pretty fast. Freeloading Muslim radicals will make Detroit look like a paradise.
Sad? Would it be better if they din’t have jobs?
Let's see... For the liberal politicians, yes.
For the ones working at Micro Soft, most of them.
For the ones who work at the coffee shops, no.... Let them keep making coffee.
right
Is that also true of those who drink to the point of mental effect?
In answer to the question as to alcohol abusers the answer is no. Quite simply it is only the druggie that is actively proselyting. It is not the goal to suppress completely any vice Total suppression can never be achieved, but the proper goal is to prevent any given vice from spreading to the healthy parts of society.
