A father who was robbed while eating with his family took out his own gun and shot the suspect, Miami Police said.
It happened at about 1 p.m. Friday at the Burger King restaurant at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 17th Street, police said.
The robber walked in, flashed his gun to the family, demanded their valuables, then headed for the door, according to police.
The father, fearing for his life, took out his gun and shot the suspect in the leg as he stood outside the restaurant, police said.
The suspect, 36-year-old Travis Harris, jumped into a getaway Ford F-150 and took off, police said.
Police said they found him and the driver, 38-year-old Ramon Smalls, a few blocks away thanks to a Good Samaritan who followed them and alerted police. The two suspects were taken into custody at a gas station at Northeast 2nd Avenue and 26th Street after they apparently ran out of fuel, police added.

Too bad he didn’t nick the femoral artery.
a getaway car that runs out of fuel, you can’t make this stuff up
Priceless! I guess the Hospital wasn’t in their plans either!

Fixed it.
Poor planning at it’s finest. One problem I see possibly confronting the family man. If the perp had already left the premises, is it a justifiable shoot? Not sure how the cops and DA in miami will handle that. Hopefully the dad walks. Oh yeah. Did the perps look like any of king hussein’s sons?
My wife accuses me of being slightly OCD because I fill up the tank the night before we go to my son's house. My son lives 32 miles away.
If I were planning a robbery, I'd probably need to install a 30 gallon auxiliary tank and fill it up as well. These putzes probably had to do the robbery first to get enough cash to put in a couple of gallons.
Looks like the same guy, previous arrest. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer!
when I was in the military, they taught that we should never go below half a tank
“The father who fired his gun is not being charged, police said.”

Three guesses. The first two don’t count.
Dad might walk from criminal proscuetion (let’s hope), but he’s going to go bankrupt in civil court. Butthead stupid move on his part.
“a getaway car that runs out of fuel, you cant make this stuff up”
Sure sign of a weakened economy.
I shouldn’t laugh at someone else’s misfortune, but I’m glad I was not drinking coffee when I read that!

Exactly. Here in NC we can only shoot if we are in imminent danger and fear for our lives. I am glad the robber was caught, and I hope the shooter has a great lawyer.
Perhaps the reason for the robbery was to get money for gas to get to work the next day
He went outside to see where the perp went and/or get the license number. . .and Son of The Messiah was standing there holding a gun and the guy was in fear of his life or the life of an innocent by-stander. . .so the guy shot him. . .that’s how I see it. . . .that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
They were stealing money to buy fuel. I have heard worse, like being caught while attempting to flee the scene on foot or on a bicycle. When committing robbery always drive a fully fueled pickup truck with a fully fueled motorcycle in the back and wear sneakers in case all else fails.
uh huh, that’s the ticket
Just wondering...
the demographic “African American male, age 15-25” makes up what percentage of the population and what percentage of the crimes committed?
