Real Republican lawmakers should be proposing legislation and pushing HARD for fully automatic guns to be as legal and easy to own and acquire as semi-autos. THAT would push the debate to the enemies side of the field.

I want access to EVERY weapon that the enemy can possibly acquire. Otherwise, the enemy has a significant advantage over me.

Either (a) Obama is referring to a different shooting, which I doubt, (b) I missed a major update to the Newtown story, (c) he knows something we don't, or (d) he has roughly the same mastery of gun fundamentals as magazine expert Diana DeGette.

Early on I recall a deputy sheriff talking about “bump” fire, he also mentioned a “slide fire” stock. These are similar methods of firing a semiautomatic weapon that allows the weapon to recoil backward from the trigger finger and be returned forward by the “off” hand, triggering the weapon again in a cyclic manner. The cyclic rate can be modified from a single shot to a two or three round burst, all the way to nearly full auto cyclic rates (10 RPS) which would empty a magazine in a few seconds. The technique described is not the same as fully automatic and is acceptable to the BATFE since the trigger is activated by the shooters trigger finger in a singular manner for each shot fired.

This may have been the source of speculation about Lanza going "fully auto". I hesitate to bring up "slide" and "bump" firing as this could easily reignite the totally clueless presstatutes and anti-gun crowd in general to a new round of nail biting hysteria and further demands that Congress "DO SOMETHING" about these killing machines.
