Atlanta School Teachers Are Being Prosecuted Like They're Mobsters (Boo Hoo!)

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has posted mug shots of 35 educators booked for allegedly colluding to raise standardized test scores.

A 73-year-old principal, a middle school secretary, elementary school teachers, and other school workers are accused of being behind the nation's biggest cheating scandal.

Prosecutors are going after them under a racketeering law originally enacted to target the mafia, and they face prison time for allegedly changing students' test scores. Many of the teachers had bonds of $1 million or more that they had to argue to get lowered to six or five figures.

The scathing indictment of mostly black teachers has sparked allegations of racism from the Concerned Black Clergy and a prominent former mayor, The New York Times has reported. Rev. Timothy McDonald, a spokesman for Concerned Black Clergy, called the indictment "overkill" at best.

“Look at the pictures of those 35,” he told the Times. “Show me a white face. Let’s just be for real. You can call it racist, you can call it whatever you want, but this is overkill. We have seen people with much deeper crimes with much less bond set.”

It's clear prosecutors meant to send a strong message by arresting so many teachers after a sting

(snip)

Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Jackson, like the Concerned Black Clergy, has rushed to the teachers' defense and accused the media of unfairly skewering them.

"Yes cheating is awful," she writes on her blog. "And so is conviction before a fair trial. I believe every accused person deserves a fair trial under a set of laws that promises to be just and balanced. I don’t support public hangings. It is barbaric."

Jackson added, "Prosecutors, judges and jurors make mistakes and overreach."

Blam, this article also mentions Beverly Hall made $580,000 in performance bonuses.

Grunt, I don’t know how much in bonuses the administrators or teachers received, but Christopher Waller, principal of Parks Middle School, received $17,500 in bonuses.

One Filipina face.
The inmates run Atlanta’s insane plantation. Old timers here see no problem with black society being WIPED OUT by abortions, killings, drugs and prisons; just as long as the process is contained. Mexicans and the like are replacing them everywhere.

LBJ’s New Society destroyed, perverted and seduced southern blacks into an entitlement class without purpose. Diss my post bro?

There seems to be a pattern there but I just can put my finger on what it might be.

It accomplished money and prestige for them and more ignorant children for the black community. Its evil to want to keep children on the liberal, democratic, plantation by giving them an “education” that means nothing. So the create another generation of kids who cant reason or read the diplomas they are given. Its racist to say thats wrong? So keeping black children ignorant is desirable and good. Talk about stereotypes and defining people! Education= too white. Illiteracy and ignorance =black? Jail for all of them and financial ruin +loss of permits to teach for life. Let them live in the ghettos the helped create and sustain!

I’d say this situation demonstrates “throwing money down a black hole”.

If they can stretch RICO, they can stretch child abuse\neglect charges ?

From Georgia law...

Child protection professional" means any person who is employed by the state or a political subdivision of the state as a law enforcement officer, school teacher, school administrator...

.... B) Neglect or exploitation of a child by a parent or caretaker thereof if said neglect or exploitation consists of a lack of supervision, abandonment, or intentional or unintentional disregard by a parent or caretaker of a child's basic needs for food, shelter, medical care, or education as evidenced by repeated incidents or a single incident which places the child at substantial risk of harm, and this shall be deemed to be child neglect for purposes of the classification required by paragraph (4) of subsection (b) of Code Section 49-5-183; and

In 2009 $500,000 in bonuses were given to 13 Atlanta schools through a district merit pay program.

“I’ve waited years for Beverly Hall to take the perp walk. It finally happened yesterday. She should have been in handcuffs”

Me, too. But she’s going after the sympathy vote and she’ll walk-—she’s claiming she has big medical problems and no money. Boo, frickin’ hoo.

It was an organized group designed to cheat and defraud the federal government out of money which resulted in personal gain for the employees involved. If that’s not racketeering I’m not sure what is.

When elephants fight the grass (reeds) gets hurt.

$500k/13 schools=$38k
Some principals raked in $17k.
Looks like the classroom teachers had to spread it thin.

Ms Hall the gold and the teachers got the shaft.
The students were hurt for little or nothing.

.....Twenty-five years ago, President Reagan, paraphrasing Education Secretary William Bennett, said: “If you serve a child a rotten hamburger in America, federal, state and local agencies will investigate you, summon you, close you down, whatever. But if you provide a child with a rotten education, nothing happens, except that you’re liable to be given more money to do it with.”

These criminals will do time. Prosecutors are aggressive. Cheating Administrators are a disgrace to metropolitan Atlanta. Everyone of all races wants this type conduct purged. Their convictions will be start on the long road restoring confidence in Atlanta’s leadership.
. All this from a senior Fulton county DA familiar with the facts.
