CINCINNATI A Jesus portrait that has hung in a southern Ohio school district since 1947 was taken down Wednesday, because of concerns about the potential costs of a federal lawsuit against its display.
The superintendent of Jackson City Schools said the decision was made after the districts insurance company declined to cover litigation expenses. He said the faculty adviser and two student members of the Hi-Y Club, a Christian-based service club that the school says owns the portrait, took it down at his direction.
At the end of the day, we just couldnt roll the dice with taxpayer money, Superintendent Phil Howard told The Associated Press. When you get into these kinds of legal battles, youre not talking about money you can raise with bake sales and car washes. Its not fair to take those resources from our kids education.

simple solution... threaten to sue them if they DO take it down!
Then we will see where they really stand on the issue.
“Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting the free exercise thereof”
There needs to be a way to use the money taken by the beast to fight the beast. If Federal taxpayer dollars are used to prosecute these cases, then I wish there were a way to use the same Federal funds to defend against the lawsuit.
It’s interesting that they would have a portrait of Jesus, since the Bible provides no description as to how he looked.
My understanding is if a school board did not receive Federal money, the Feds would have no say in the matter.
This pathetic bunch of demon worshipers can take dowm pictures but they can’t take Jesus out of my heart..They are afraid their children might learn the real truth so are afraid of God..No matter how much they take these pictures down there are to many of us to fight..God in the end will rule them and send them directly where they will burn for eternity..It is a shame they lie to their own children they will pay for that too..I hope God opens these fools eyes before it is to late..
It is geting closer than they think to paying for their sins..
It seems to me that spending tax payer money to defend the right to have the image of God in our schools would be better for our children then spending tax payer money to teach them the common core.
That’s true, He looks different in just about every “portrait” painted of Him. I wonder what they’d do if “Sam” was suddenly found on the back?
Dude's got creepy-long alien fingers. Not sure what I prefer - this, or Ecce Mono.
Regardless what FDR's activist justices wanted everybody to believe about the Establishment Clause in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson's "wall of separation," the real Jefferson had written the following. Jefferson had noted that the Founding States had made the 1st and 10th Amendments in part to reserve government power to reasonably regulate our 1A protected freedoms regardless they had made 1A to prohibit such powers to Congress altogether.
"3. Resolved that it is true as a general principle and is also expressly declared by one of the amendments to the constitution that the powers not delegated to the US. by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively or to the people: and that no power over the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, or freedom of the press being delegated to the US. by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, all lawful powers respecting the same did of right remain, & were reserved, to the states or the people: that thus was manifested their determination to retain to themselves the right of judging how far the licentiousness of speech and of the press may be abridged without lessening their useful freedom, and how far those abuses which cannot be separated from their use should be tolerated rather than the use be destroyed (emphasis added); " --Thomas Jefferson, Kentucky Resolutions, 1798.
Sadly, as a consequence of evidently widespread ignorance of the Constitution and its history in the 20th century, activist justices got away with ignoring that John Bingham, the main author of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment, had officially clarified that 14A took away no state powers. So the states still have the constitutional authority to address religious issues which the Supreme Court's "atheist" Jefferson had actually acknowledged, as long as nobody's constitutional rights are violated, regardless if they are failing to teach such things in public schools.
I agree with your statement above.

Perhaps the citizens can put up yard signs all over town with the historical picture of Jesus. Or maybe the club or a church could sell framed Jesus pictures with the proceeds going to a community concert.
This is an opportunity to share the Gospel which should not be overlooked by the community and just maybe those in opposition will repent, turn from their wicked ways, and trust in the Lord.
Considering God is in charge of everyone's next breath, it is unbelievable what is happening in this country. Evil abound and not many seem to care. Godless generation?
Better yet have a picture of the image on the Shroud of Turin. That image to me is more like Yashua than the current popular portrait of Him. Just say it an historical image.
They should put up a bunch of pictures of men with long dark hair and beards. Let the atheists decide which one is Jesus.
These people sure are scared of someone they don’t believe in.
Satan wins another one.
Under the Obama administration, the Dark One is doing just fine, thank you.
Can you just imagine how those evil people will be hiding behind anything they can when the Lord does come back, but there will be no hiding place for them..
Satan wins another one.
Under the Obama administration, the Dark One is doing just fine, thank you.

Yes, Jack Hammer, it would seem that he won another one, when in fact he lost it all from the beginning. It is the people who are falling for Satan’s lies who are the real losers and facing an inevitable Hell if they don’t get straightened out. It is the believers who need to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and encourage other believers to stay the course, finish the race. It will be worth it no matter the cost. May God Bless You!
If the “portrait” doesn’t have any identifying type for who the portrait is depicting, how does anyone “know” it’s a picture of Christ? Especially since there are no known pictures/portraits of Christ? For all anyone knows it might be a representational portrait of John Lennon!
