This week, Vice-President Joe Biden, and House Minority Leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), showed us--once again--how thorough their contempt is for our Constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights.
According to a Washington Times article, on a Wednesday conference call organized by "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," Biden referred to current anti-gun legislation and told his anti-gun supporters, "Let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning."
As the article notes, recent surveys show increasing opposition to stricter gun control measures. But this fact matters not to Biden; nor to Pelosi, who also voiced a determination to continue pushing for gun bans, no matter what the American public says.
"I've been to a number of states since this Congress has gone in and many parts of different states and the public is so far ahead of the Congress on this subject. I believe whatever passes in the Congress now will not be the end of the day for this issue."
The anti-gunners see momentum from tragedy as an asset. They believe that momentum is now on their side. And they clearly intend to press that perceived advantage to promote their agenda. They don't care that polling data contradicts them or that past experiments with the same type of legislation have failed. For them, the real goal is restricting firearm ownership in America--as much as they can, however they can, and whenever they can.
"This is a very big deal for the public," Pelosi concluded. "But again, it's a legislative body, and we have to go forward as boldly as we possibly can, and I would not say, well, if the assault weapon ban isn't there that that means less is going to happen down the road. I think it means more should happen up the road as we go forward."
Please be sure to contact your elected officials today, and respectfully urge them to protect our Second Amendment rights. Ask them to oppose anti-gun legislation, especially Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) S. 374, the "Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013"--which would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers-- and Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) S. 150, the "Assault Weapons Ban of 2013."

And to think, in 1962 Thomas J Dodd and Emaual Cellar proposed the first federal law on common firearms.
1962; “We don’t want to take away your guns, we ONLY want to register handguns! Rifles and shotguns will not be affected”.
1964: “We only want to register all your guns, not ban them! Only Army surplus guns will be banned.”
1968: “We only want to register your guns, and ban “Saturday Night Specials” and small foreign handguns along with army surplus rifles!” (They got the ban on 5 shot army surplus rifles and handguns and small foreign pistols)
1970: “We only want to ban Saturday night specials! Large handguns and rifles will not be affected!”.
1976: “We only want to ban all handguns! Long guns will not be affected!”
1981: “The NRA is a rifle organization! They should give up their handguns, and they can keep their rifles!”- Lee Grant on GMA
1984: “We must ban “assault Rifles, unsuitable or hunting!”
1989: George Bush bans import of some foreign made “assault rifles”.
1992: Assault rifle ban passed by Clinton.
2000: first calls to ban single shot .50 cal rifles...
2012 calls for MORE bans on semi auto rifles and handguns.
And so it continues.
They lied to us in 1962.

I live in CT. When any of the local media outlets publish a anti-gun article the comments on the website, if allowed, are 99% opposed to it. They keep thinking the biased polls reflect the actual public opinion.
Once again, Unlce Joe shows his ignorance in public.
The beginning was in 1938 when the the Federal Firearms Act was passed. The gun grabbing, 2nd amendment haters have been trying ever since.
Do these politicos see themselves ordering American troops, sheriffs, police, and ATF agents into the homes of millions of Americans to confiscate guns? Is this how far detached from reality they are? Do they know what they’re prescribing? How can they call themselves “democrats” — even the Democrats?
Calling my senators, what a joke. My two senators, menendez and lautenberg. What chance is there that either of these two pieces or excrement will stand up for the Constitution?
They count the letter and the calls, yea or nay. These guys know that people who take the time to call and write vote. We just defeated 2 crazy anti-gun bills in NM by writing and calling. Don’t sell your own power short. Do something.
Or something very similar to this. The registration records are what they need to really get the ball rolling.
Uncle Cracker needs to learn what “shall not be infringed upon” means, and Bela Pelosi needs to get back to her belfry and hang upside dpwn with the rest of the old bats.

The older I get the harder time I have reading any news or comments, including Free Republic. The government is clearly an enemy of its citizens and both Parties represent the same goals. All I see are arm chair quarterbacks repeating the same garbage. At least the original tea party actually threw tea into harbor. People need to finally take action or the tyranny will never end. The politicians should be living in fear, not the lap of luxury.
The gun purchase binge just reoriented the thinking of our Solons in Congress.
Their reasoning these always seems to be “we have to do this or the Blacks will riot”
For the first time in recent history, they were more afraid of the White Middle Class that were were of their classic pressure groups.
It might be a good idea to keep them a bit nervous for the next 4 years because they are pushing us towards a an authoritarian police state at a rapid pace.
