(CNSNews.com) - According to new data released by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 19.7 million new venereal infections in the United States in 2008, bringing the total number of existing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the U.S. at that time to 110,197,000.
The 19.7 million new STIs in 2008 vastly outpaced the new jobs and college graduates created in the United States that year or any other year on record, according to government data. The competition was not close.
The STI study referenced by the CDC estimated that 50 percent of the new infections in 2008 occurred among people in the 15-to-24 age bracket. In fact, of the 19,738,800 total new STIs in the United States in 2008, 9,782,650 were among Americans in the 15-to-24 age bracket.

An animal does not have the mental capacity to engage in consensual sex with a human. They are driven by instinct, not reason. On the other hand, if sexual preference is the prime concern, then how can one possibly argue against polygamy, polyandry, or any other consensual human grouping? If we’re going to deny reality and say a man’s preference for sodomy is equivalent to heterosexual, aka natural sexual attractions, then let’s be truly fair about it. Any grouping, so long as they are all consenting adults, should be able to declare their eternal love for each other. To do anything else would be to deny equal protection under the law. If preference is it, the key factor, then why should a homo’s preference be given any special protection over a bisexual’s or a guy that wants a harem?
Oddly enough, a comment following that article blamed the high incidence of disease on stupid Republican teenagers who were taught abstinence and who didn't know how to use protection.
When someone else said that modern morality was low compared with that of a century or more ago, another commenter countered that with something like "the Founding Fathers [Jefferson and Franklin] were lechers and whoremongers, so your argument is invalid."

And you are right not to believe that, because that's not what it said. It didn't say 110M plus people have (one or more) STDs, it gave a count of instance of infections. If Sally Slut gets the clap, takes her antibiotics until its gone, then gets the clap again, that's two infections. If Bathhouse Billy, whose immune system is compromised by AIDS gets secondary infections of syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes and genital warts, that's six infections.
Remembering that they are probably counting all the HPV infections that show up as abnormal Pap smears (and maybe even presumptively counting another infection for each sex partner she reports) and chlamydia (neither of which were in the list of venereal diseases we were taught in school back in the day before STD became the politically correct term), and that a very promiscuous person can account for multiple infections, the estimate sounds reasonable
