Teens charged in toddler's killing appear in court

A 15-year-old suspect charged with murder in the killing of a Brunswick toddler made his first appearance in court Monday morning. A 17-year-old suspect also arrested in the killing is expected to make his first appearance Monday afternoon.

Dominique Lane appeared in court in the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Lane, 15, was initially reported to be 14 years old. A judge did not say if he is being charged as an adult. Investigators said he was an accomplice in the killing.

De'Marquise Elkins, 17, appeared in court Monday afternoon, and a preliminary hearing was set for next week. According to Georgia state law, 17-year-olds are considered adults in the criminal justice system.

Investigators said Elkins shot and killed the child as his mother pushed him in his stroller.

Both teens face first-degree murder charges.

"I feel sorry for the mother. I feel sorry for the baby. And my baby is innocent. He could've been dead too," said Brenda Moses, Lane's mother.

Outside court Monday, Moses and Lane's grandmother, Verdell Hunter, said Lane doesn't know Elkins. Hunter said her family doesn't know exactly what happened, but her grandson lives in the area and told her he was simply walking by when he saw Elkins.

"He's a victim," Hunter said. "He said that boy came up to him and said, 'I'm fixing to off you off. You a Mexican.' Because he had a hood on his head with the little thing in there. And my grandson said oh."

"My grandson is a victim," she added. "He could've been dead. The baby is a victim. The mother is a victim. My grandson is a victim. He's a victim."

Hunter said the killing is something her grandson would never be a part of, and his mother said he was merely a witness.

"And my baby is innocent. He could’ve been dead too,” said Brenda Moses, Lane’s mother."

I figure she said it more like this:

An' ma baby is inicent. He cudda bin daid too."

Bloods4ever

He was establishing the Brunswick chapter of the Bloods and the 15 year old was his younger disciple.

I try to save stuff if I get to it before it goes down the tube. I’m set up to process image files anyway.

Is gramma claiming that he was profiled because he had a hoodie on????

Auntie said that sweet, innocent little De’Marquise was with her all morning. Had a big breakfast. Then went out shopping or something-other with the family. Couldn’t POSSIBLY have been her little De’Marquise who murdered an innocent 13-month-old baby.

Middle finger?

“ME IN MY NIGGA”S A TURN UR BLOSK IN TO MURDER SCENE?”

Oh. No doubt it wasn’t him.

I would think that if he’s convicted, or if there’s clear evidence she lied, she could be charged with obstruction of justice.

This site:

http://statelaws.net/Georgia-Felony.php

says it can get you 1 to 5 years. Personally, if I were a prosecutor in this case, I’d go for every millisecond of the maximum.

‘Watched the news tonight and it appears the defense is going after the race angle here—says a wtness for one race fingering another race is unreliable. Even though
the police were tipped off and the mom picked him out of a lineup.

Hanging is too good, send him to some “ Hell Hole” Prison and let him rot the rest of his life, no parole, no hopes/

The problem the race baiters will have is that the mother got the “curly hair” right and the “stocky build” right and the long sleeve red shirt is somewhere.

And the 15 year old rolled on the 17 year old. His grandmomma said that he was a “witness” and he witnessed Elkins doing the shooting.

And before this is over the aunt will be behind bars. She has some culpability with this.

The “ - - - politically correct way to break the cycle - - - “ is to do what all Obamanation Liberals promise to do:

1.) We will get to the bottom of this.

2.) We will make sure that this never happens again.

No guilt, no blame, no accountability as everyone is a victim.

The main thing is to make sure that this never happens again.

The one thing that rankles me is the mother’s wounds: a graze of the ear, and a bullet in the thigh. Then the baby gets it right between the eyes. That just doesn’t sit with me. Then you have the husband “blaming her”, though not accusing her of the act, of course. What is that? What is his angle on this?

The gun has not been recovered. To me, it’s still possible that she could have engineered this whole thing. So I’m waiting for the forensics, which presumably means waiting for the trial.

The hand signs are for the Bloods as well. I guess in order to be a Blood you need to prove you are tough and brave - so one goes and shoots a baby in a stroller. Punks.

I agree with the poster on another thread who said to put both of them through one of Sadam Hussein’s plastic shredders. Just make sure to wear a raincoat if you’re in the first five rows!!
