Sen. Rand Paul said Sunday that President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush could have "conceivably been put in jail for their drug use, ruining their lives and impacting their getting elected to office.
"Look, the last two presidents could have conceivably been put in jail for their drug use and I really think - look what would've happened, it would've ruined their lives. They got lucky. But a lot of poor kids, particularly in the inner city, don't get lucky and they don't have good attorneys and they go to jail for some of these things and I think it's a big mistake, the Kentucky Republican said on Foxs Fox News Sunday.
"Actually, I think it would be the last three presidents, but who's counting?" host Chris Wallace said with a laugh, referring to former President Bill Clinton.
"There you go," Paul said.
"But he didn't inhale," Wallace quipped.
Paul said that he doesnt support people using marijuana but said he also doesnt necessarily support putting them in jail for extended periods of time.

Are you sure? We have so little information about obama, soetero or whatever his name is this week, that I am not sure of his criminal history either. Who knows.
Yeah, prostitution is a trickier issue but even in areas where it is legal like Nevada, it’s only legal outside city limits of the big cities like Reno and LV so-as not to ruin things for visitors.
Paul is over simplifying drug use. There is really no such thing as non violent offenders.
First consider all of the violence committed to bring the drugs to the streets. Now consider all of the violence that occurs in the streets such as gangs killing each other to control the drug sales in that area.
Now the person who purchases the drugs may not have committed a violent crime, but he is the cause of the violence that has been committed to bring the drugs to him.
So was everyone who took a drink during Prohibition a violent offender?
Bush had the deficit down to 200 billion before pelosi took the gavel. You really think that’S the same as Obama’s trillions in deficits?
You’ve got it right about Foley. I can still remember how “outraged” conservatives refused to vote in the house elections because of one gay congressman. So what did we get as a result? San Francisco took the gavel of the house With pelosi and today gay marriage is happening all over the place. Foley was one of the left’S most successful October surprises ever and the right fell for it hook line and sinker.
>>>divisions have already started.... He had no business >>>>comparing President Bush to Obama. Obama is a die-hard Markist
It wont be long when the police state built by the wod is turned on the same conservatives who cheered it all on lustfully.
Intellectual dishonesty bears a high price. Pot is illegal because of timber..drug..and beer companies fearing losing percentiles of profit. The poppy plant is illegal to grow because we could all just make a paste out of it that is far more effective and far less addictive than the pain meds big pharm compounds out of it...but where is the profit in that?
How could the Bush family have made its fortune in the opium trade without outlawing the poppy?
How could the CIA fund all those ops without profits made in the illegal cocaine and heroin trade?
All the swat teams...all the armor...all the innocent blood..and all the hard earned rights YOU CHEERFULLY gave away...because the very thought someone might like to get a buzz in a way YOU don’t approve of.
Enjoy the taste of your bootleather pro wod conservatives...it oughta go real nice with the taste of rights you helped destroy when they knock down your door and take you off to the camps.
In some areas half the people in jail are there for mandatory sentences for non violent drug convictions. Time to stop wasting our money on that kind of thing. Why do we want to support the Prison Corporation of America, unless we are stockholders. Also, if we are going to give the job to corporations not the government, then we should withhold part of their payment until the released prisoner has not recidivized for 5 years. Give the corporations an incentive to do job training, and get drugs out of prisons so people can kick their habits.
The prisons and public unions (guards) are HUGE special interests and require a steady stream of fresh ‘victims’.
So what if Rand is like his dad? I’d certainly hope he is.
Bush was like his dad... he invaded countries, told lies and spent big. That was a problem for me.
What’s a few hundred billions between friends? Bush took Clinton and Gingrich’s balanced budget and turned into a fiscal nightmare. Obama is just continuing that practice.
Remember when Cheney said “deficits don’t matter”, oh really?
“Rand is like his dad.”
That comment makes no sense. They are completely different. But if you can find a Ron Paul quote trashing Bush and Obama feel free to ping me.
If legalized prostitution is conservative, I'm not a conservative.
Fortunately, in every state except Nevada, I can say the law is on my side and against your side.
Why do we have people advocating legalized prostitution on Free Republic?
As far as George W. Bush's substance abuse is concerned, I think he **DID** get arrested for and convicted of drunk driving. Once that was discovered, it nearly cost him the 2000 election.
Rand Paul says a lot of good things, but then he goes off and says stuff that sounds a lot too much like his father.

Look, we all know these things go in cycles. Free Republic used to ban Ron Paul supporters, sometimes zotting them on sight. I remember a Class of 1998 Freeper being zotted merely because he said he'd vote for Ron Paul.
Today Rand Paul is popular in some conservative circles and the Paulbots are coming back out of the woodwork.
Enjoy your reprieve, Paulbots. If Rand Paul starts acting like a responsible elected official, I'll be right out front defending your right to be considered a legitimate wing of the Republican Party. But if, as I suspect, the Rand Paul apple hasn't fallen far from the Ron Paul tree, it will only be a matter of time until the reprieve ends and the zots begin anew.
As far as I'm concerned, libertarians who advocate amorality and who don't support a strong defense are not conservatives but rather a cancer in our midst. On the other hand, libertarians who want to focus on issues of personal freedom and fiscal discipline while staying quiet on social issues and military issues are people I can work with, just as I'm happy to support decorated combat veterans who may not share my moral values but are otherwise solid conservatives.
People's positions take time to fully develop, and while Ron Paul is a known commodity, I'll give Rand Paul the benefit of the doubt so we can find out where he stands.
I’ll agree with anyone if they’re right and disagree with them if they’re wrong. In this case, Rand Paul is repeating a false mantra about people in prison for simple possession of small amounts of drugs.
Good question. And why do we have people advocating legalized drug usage on Free Republic?
If legalized prostitution is conservative, I'm not a conservative.
Then according to a growing majority of FReepers - you are not a conservative. The libertarian segment of FReepers around here are getting more and more vocal as they advocate for amnesty, abortion, legal drugs, prostitution and on and on.
Just as there is no unity in the GOP, there is no unity at Free Republic. Its Libertarians vs. SoCons.
I’d rather be a Paulbot than a Bushbot.
Are you a Bushbot?
Are you aware that the Founders didn’t even want a standing military?
So, if I take the founders position of not wanting a standing army, am I an extremist who is not for a strong national defense? Are you calling the FOUNDERS extremists and anti-American?
