Gun deaths are shaped by race in America. Whites are far more likely to shoot themselves, and African Americans are far more likely to be shot by someone else.
The statistical difference is dramatic, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A white person is five times as likely to commit suicide with a gun as to be shot with a gun; for each African American who uses a gun to commit suicide, five are killed by other people with guns.
Where a person lives matters, too. Gun deaths in urban areas are much more likely to be homicides, while suicide is far and away the dominant form of gun death in rural areas. States with the most guns per capita, such as Montana and Wyoming, have the highest suicide rates; states with low gun ownership rates, such as Massachusetts and New York, have far fewer suicides per capita.
Suicides and homicides are highly charged human dramas. Both acts shatter families, friends and sometimes communities. But the reactions are as different as black and white, and those differences shape the nation’s divided attitudes toward gun control.
For instance, African Americans tend to be stronger backers of tough gun controls than whites. A Washington Post-ABC News poll this month found that about three-quarters of blacks support stronger controls, compared with about half of whites. The poll also found that two-thirds of city dwellers support stronger gun controls, while only about a third of rural residents back them.

When you embrace a culture where "life is cheap" your own is worth only as much as the value you place on others.

Of the black population that commits 52 percent of the murders, 4 percent are black males between 15 and 60 years of age. So 4 percent of the population commits probably 45+ percent of the homicides in the USA, year after year.
And Many are convicted felons who cant legally have a gun in the first place.
Despite the headline of the article, The Washington Post goes out of their way to avoid revealing the central issue on guns and race. Orwellian is the operative word here.

The homicide rate for blacks is 10 times the rate for whites even though gun ownership is dramatically lower among blacks. So, the gun control laws in the cities are an utter failure at keeping down “gun deaths” in black populations.
Although gun control laws may have a slight impact on white suicide (by gun). There is no overall suicide rate given. So we don’t know if whites just choose another method.
WOW! Those strict gun control laws in Chicago have sure made a difference!
Rather than a national epidemic, it is a global phenomenon. Check murder rates by country worldwide.

The Compost admits that race shapes gun use in America, but they use word trickery to remain politically correct.
Notice that when discussing white gun use the Compost states, “Whites are far more likely to shoot themselves”. Yet, when noting black gun use the Compost states, “African Americans are far more likely to be shot by someone else.”
See what the Compost did? The first statement is how white gun owners use their gun — most often to kill themselves, not others. But the second statement is not black gun owners at all. Instead it’s about how black people in general are more likely to get shot. It paints the image of black people as innocent victims of guns.
If the Compost wanted to be honest, they would draw direct equivalents. They would write, “White gun owners are more likely to shoot and kill themselves, while black gun owners are more likely to shoot and kill someone else.” This, however, tells the truth regarding the major perpetrators of gun violence, and the Cultural Marxists at the Compost can’t allow that.
Black people have an exceptionally barbaric professional criminal class. Sometimes it's over selling sex, othertimes it'll be booze, or drugs, or just 'turf'. That class was present when this was a predominantly rural nation in fact. It was probably part of the warp and woof in the background of slavery. It occurs in black communities in every nation on earth where those communities exist.
South Africa, which was never subjected to the slave trade ~ which filtered that kind of person out of the mix ~ has an ENORMOUS murder rate ~ highest in the world!

Astute readers know the Post dodged carrying the simile forward because, as it turns out, a lot of blacks are being shot by hispanics ~ and its the hispanics the Post has more recently begun carrying the water for!

The greatest disparity by race is in who the perps are in all crime, not in who the victims are.
According to Gallup, a group that doesn't even own many guns is responsible for a disproportionate amount of gun violence in the United States.
If you watch prime-time TV, you'd think that a typical murderer and a typical murder victim are the opposite of what they actually are.
If the screen writers were realistic, they'd just need to film one episode, and play it over and over again.

I don’t know... That part’s counter intuitive to me. It seems to me that some races of people are more likely to become slaves than others. I would think that a less violent race would be more apt to be subjected to slavery.
For example, the American Indian population did not make very good slaves. One of the reason we imported blacks...
I suspect that being a driver for the mayor was only a secondary (or tertiary) qualification.
