Not trying to be trite but its a serious question. A good supply of ammo for hunting is certainly a good idea in my book.
I’d love to have 15k rounds of 5.56 on hand but seriously is that amount more important then other items? Chances are you won’t live to use it if the shootings that intense.

Even here where tornados and high winds are regular, I'd rather stay here than leave. If I survive, some of my stuff will, too. I know this ground, and my stuff. Even if it gets scattered and rained on.
If I don't survive, I'm fairly sure I won't care.

Then you probably understand my point.
I went to make coffee this morning and the water came out of the tap all brown! I was shocked. So, I called the city water office and guess what? It’s Saturday! No one is there. So, I made coffee with bottled water and thought about it.
Eventually, I ran the water long enough to get a good color; but, I wasn’t sure if I should drink it. So, I tried to call the big emergency number for the city - line was busy.
After carrying on all afternoon, I got a city worker at my door who said they were flushing the fire hydrants because the Fire Dept. uses them for training and they let dirt into the system - happens all the time!
Lesson: I need to store more water!
One thing I always did in a commercial/military kitchen when I started a shift was put at least a 15 gallon pot on to heat. No matter what happened during the shift, you would use the hot water, and if CE screwed up and power went south... you had hot water for some basic stuff.

That would depend on so many factors, such as where you are to begin with, and the nature of the problem one is in.
I fled the USSA 12 years ago, and have not regretted it for one moment.
If I were still back in west Tennessee, my first choice would be to head for the hills...Smoky Mountains.
Preppers need to have multiple plans, depending on the problem. One plan will not likely cover all potential problems.
I have been looking at solar chargers for small batteries. A fistfull of rechargables could do the duty of a drawer full of expendables. Do you have any experience with these or recommendations?
That headline writer ought to know that the word “apocalypse” means disclosure or revelation, not calamity or disaster.
To a large extent, I feed myself through my own efforts. I do buy some stuff at grocery stores (Port Salut cheese and Cotes du Rhone pop to mind), but the bulk, I grow or forage.
I can eat for a year off the land without burning a single round of ammo.
Heck, last week, I had 2 meals of asparagus out of the garden and a couple of salads without firing a single shot.
Skillsets are more important than ammo.

Chances are, I won't survive the first wave, but if I do, I'm in good shape as far as provisions go.
