They're lucky the instructor didn't have them write "Muhammad" on a piece of paper and stomp on it.

They would have had a jihad on their campus within hours.

I, for one, am sick up to HERE with all the damned insipid 'apologies' about everything !

And most often by the ilk who'll 'apologize' today with full intention of doing whatever it was again as soon as the heat dies down and/or no one is looking.

The college really should apologize for making parents pay to have their kids stomp on a piece of paper with anything written on it and calling it college level instruction.

Reminds me of Silence by Shusaku Endo, which tells about the Catholic missionaries and Catholic converts in 17th century Japan, who endured persecution in the time of Kakure Kirishitan ("Hidden Christians").

When caught, they were ordered to trample on fumie, which were carved wooden figures of Jesus Christ. If they refused, they were tortured to death. This happened to thousands and thousands of Japanese Christians.

That's not what this university did, of course. But it's the idea that Christians can be pressured by symbolic acts to betray their Faith in Christ... a faith which is no longer tolerated by the power structure.

What about students named Jesus? Wouldn’t that be considered anti Hispanic (and therefore racist)?

Deandre Poole, got caught. It was such a waste of time for the students and like the other FR posted; such a waste of money. We are suppose to be tolerate of religious freedom though this so called professor seemed to have a reason for doing this. Why say write Jesus in the first place. He just got caught.

The entire scene (of stomping religious symbols) is right out of “That Hideous Strength” (C.S. Lewis)

“Florida Atlantic University respects all religions and welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds and beliefs.”

Yeah I’m sure that statement is on their glossy brochure but it has been shown to be a lie. Sack the anti- Christian bigot who did this and then reprimand anyone else who had a hand in the the okaying of it. Then I might start to feel that there is some truth to the statement.

A peek at the faculty listing shows Deandre Poole's email entry has been deleted.
But I did find this ...

Almost straight from C.S. Lewis’ “That Hideous Strength”. The iconoclastic winnowing of the faithless at university level to serve the “Head”. A prescient novel dealing with the unholy melding of progressive academics and authoritarian government. Sounds like the instructor is a talent scout for the progressive machine, identifying those of faith, marking them for further attention and greater attempts to either corrupt or destroy them. The stompers get good grades and move to the next level.

This is the time of separating the goats from the sheep.

The “prof” was a Phd (sic) from Howard.

What a joke.

We sincerely apologize for any offense this has caused...

A classic non-appology apology. They didn't say "we're sorry we were so offensive". They are saying, "we're sorry you were offended".

Obviously they don’t.

Everything is a symbol in this country. What if someone wrote gay “marriage” on a paper and stomped on it? Or a name dear to death cult members? Or the name of the current occupant of the oval office?
The outrage would be overwhelming.
The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

Not good enough.
All these people should lose their jobs and the ripple should flow through all of thuggish, Godless academia.

Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, was in the classroom and refused to participate — telling television station WPEC that the assignment was insulting and offensive.

No; this fella was NOT the only one to fail to stomp!
