Florida Atlantic University has issued an apology for a classroom assignment that involving students writing the name Jesus on a sheet of paper and then stomping on the paper. The university also said the lesson will never again be used.
We sincerely apologize for any offense this has caused, the university said in a prepared statement. Florida Atlantic University respects all religions and welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds and beliefs.
The university initially defended the Christ-bashing lesson which is included textbook titled, Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.
Fox News obtained a synopsis of the lesson taught by Deandre Poole, who also happens to be vice chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party.
Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper, the lesson reads. Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they cant step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture.
Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, was in the classroom and refused to participate telling television station WPEC that the assignment was insulting and offensive.
They would have had a jihad on their campus within hours.
And most often by the ilk who'll 'apologize' today with full intention of doing whatever it was again as soon as the heat dies down and/or no one is looking.
The college really should apologize for making parents pay to have their kids stomp on a piece of paper with anything written on it and calling it college level instruction.
When caught, they were ordered to trample on fumie, which were carved wooden figures of Jesus Christ. If they refused, they were tortured to death. This happened to thousands and thousands of Japanese Christians.
That's not what this university did, of course. But it's the idea that Christians can be pressured by symbolic acts to betray their Faith in Christ... a faith which is no longer tolerated by the power structure.
Here’s the REALLY sad thing about this....ONLY ONE STUDENT REFUSED!!!! THAT is DISGUSTING!!
What about students named Jesus? Wouldn’t that be considered anti Hispanic (and therefore racist)?
Where’s a picture of Deandre Poole?? I want to see that hideous person.
The entire scene (of stomping religious symbols) is right out of That Hideous Strength (C.S. Lewis)
And the douche nozzle instructor who told them to do this (who, btw, is a local Democrat/socialist opperative, funny that’s not in the article) will not be fired or even repremanded.
They’re sorry. Sorry they got caught.
Yup. First thing that came to mind for me too.
“Heres the REALLY sad thing about this....ONLY ONE STUDENT REFUSED!!!! THAT is DISGUSTING!!”
And they suspended him for refusing. I hope they apologized and ditched the suspension.
The test was supposed to be to generate the importance of religious symbols. It looks more like an excuse to scare students into betraying their religion.
In any event, EVERYBODY knows the importance of religious symbols. Why were college students treated as idiots with this insulting test?
There’s a pretty huge mosque just a stones throw away from this campus. They wouldn’t dare anyways, because Islam is the Left’s favorite religion.
> The college really should apologize for making parents pay
> to have their kids stomp on a piece of paper with anything
> written on it and calling it college level instruction.
THAT is the apology that must be made.
I am a Christian, so I love Jesus. If people want to insult Him and disparage Him, even if they want to try to lead others to do the same, let them. Compared to God they are tiny, pathetic, shrill little creatures, but He loves them enough to have suffered the death of the cross for them.
However, if they try to exercise their violence and hatred on those of us who love God, then we must be prepared for that; either to be martyred, as were many of His saints throughout time, or to fight back, as Christians did in Tours and Vienna when threatened by the invading Moslem tyranny.
Which is the correct response? I would have to say that it depends on how the Lord is leading you. We have many examples of martyrdom and of armed resistance, both blessed by God.
But whatever happens, we must remember that, “We ought to obey God rather than men,” Acts 5:29.
Florida Atlantic University respects all religions and welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds and beliefs.
Yeah I’m sure that statement is on their glossy brochure but it has been shown to be a lie. Sack the anti- Christian bigot who did this and then reprimand anyone else who had a hand in the the okaying of it. Then I might start to feel that there is some truth to the statement.
