Good news: “Walking Dead” devotes full hour of screen time to its two most unlikable characters

Time for the weekly grumble thread. Just the other day I was thinking, “You know what would really perk this show up? An entire episode devoted to its most annoying, chronically boring character, who hasn’t done a single interesting thing since season one. The writers need to kill a few hours anyway while we’re waiting for the big finale between Rick’s gang and Woodbury. Here’s their chance to have Andrea finally figure out that the Governor’s a sadistic megalomaniac, just like the rest of the world did 20 episodes ago.” And then, as if by magic, there it was last night — the show that I’d dreamed of, essentially “Sleeping With the Enemy” with some zombies tossed in. My only regret is that there weren’t a few more scenes of Michonne silently glowering at people, which never gets old. We’ll have to make do with just that one by the campfire.

The big chase scene in the warehouse was fine, but let’s face it, no one watching it seriously believed the Governor would be eaten. That might have happened in a show about the zombie apocalypse, where life ends brutally and unpredictably even for the most significant characters, but that’s not what this show is about. This is a show about the survivalist soap opera among Rick and the gang with zombies as backdrop. And since the soap opera requires a Final Conflict with the Governor, that’s what we’ll get. Coming next week: To save the prison, Rick must battle the Governor’s tank of sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their heads.

"a few more scenes of Michonne silently glowering at people" -------------------------------------------------------

She's the stereotypical perpetually angry black person libs so much love. This show started out with promise before it became a soap opera snoozefest.

What a piss and moan bitch fest.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.

Problem solved.

Oh goodness!

Watch any old western movie or detective show or super hero movie.

The good guy and bad guy face off. Good guy wins, but lets the bad guy live. Everyone in the audience knows the good guy should have taken out the bad guy, but noooooo.

Then, the inevitable: they meet again and the good guy is forced to take out the bad guy.

Andrea could have taken out the Gov with that knife, a couple of episodes previous, but he didn’t.

Rick could have taken out the Gov last week, but he didn’t.

Had either one of them taken out the Gov, the season would basically have ended already, but they still have a couple of weeks contracted to pay the actor.

Why are people so worried about a zombie apocalypse, it’s never going to happen? What we need to worry about is the douchebag apocalypse, which is here right now.

Sorry Allahpundit, ‘The Walking Dead’ is a great show and the actors playing the various characters are doing a great job of reflecting the essences of those characters. Sometimes people can be annoying—and that applies even to fictional people. I wouldn’t expect to see many folks in this show acting like Ozzie L& Harriet.

” After the Lawrence Welk Show came to an end - all TV went to hell in a hand basket, by cracky! “ ;)

I'm enjoying WD quite a bit. Last scene with Andrea was pretty scary.

Glad you’re able to enjoy the show so much. I’ve been following it, but what I see is mostly decent actors (but with some HORRIBLE accents) who are doing the best they can with inane dialogue and ridiculous melodrama and, oh, there are some undead people that show up now and then. Very little of the behavior of these characters has struck me as even the slightest bit realistic for the circumstances. But, hey, to each his own.

I don’t understand people that watch shows for the sole purpose of pissing and moaning about them. Are we supposed to be impressed by how smart this guy is for how much he dislikes the show? What I see is a whiny bitch who puts sand in his own pants, if he don’t like it he shouldn’t watch it.

And Michone is nowhere near the character you describe. She’s generally not angry, she has trust issues. Which pretty much everybody in that situation should because a good chunk of survivors are bad people who survive by killing.

The show is exactly what’s it’s been since the opening frame. It’s about the PEOPLE not the zombies. Yes, some folks like to call that “soap opera”, of course the successful TV executives will tell you ALL drama is soap opera, always has been. It’s not about the zombies because zombies without human drama are dull. They’re like Stalone movies, “oh look more bad guys, now we kill them, next scene”. Drama makes you root for characters, and against them, drama is what makes the zombies matter, because if you don’t care about the characters the risk has no meaning. That was my issue with 24, one our in I didn’t like any of the characters, but didn’t hate them either, and subsequently didn’t care if they lived or died. So I stopped, unlike our writer, if I don’t like a show I don’t watch it.

Andrea is a twit and needs to be off’ed. I’ve had it with her. And the series for that matter. It is really draggin right now. We dealt with pickin up new members, dealing with inter-personal situations, blah, blah, blah. How boring. Hell, the dam zombies are like grazing sheep—not even a threat any more. Let’s see those zombies double-time it! That’ll make things interesting again.

And another thing, Rick knows dam well the Gove has long range sniper capability, but hell, they all stand around in the open talking bout emotional crap, while on guard duty. Good grief already. Come on Gove, time to snipe a couple of these maroons. Maybe they’ll finally get it! But I enjoy the show.

She should have either stole his truck or slit his tires as soon as she got out of the factory. More than that, she should have killed him when she had the chance. Bye Bye Andrea!!!

I will admit to watching the show and complaining about every episode. The complete lack of situational awareness alone would have everyone on that show dead in the first few weeks. For example on the morgan episode, Morgan and son go into a house to find food. Morgan goes into the basement and leaves son by the stairs. Zombie eats son. Obviously they did not clear the house before they started searching, or they left the door open and one walked in undetected. Its just too stupid to be believable.

Exactly, they are being treated like mere annoyances, the writers are the real walking dead.

The real genius was last week where the guy had the town rigged with rat traps and zombie snares. Real survivors would eliminate the threat locally instead of hiding out and infighting. The series is just a moronic cult gathering, occasionally with some good scenes but mostly it teaches stupidity. Stupid weapons priorities, food and shelter, lack of military style training etc.
