No more Stephanopoulos? RNC wants role in picking 2016 primary debate moderators
The Daily Caller ^ | March18 , 2013

When conservatives complain about the harm that the endless debate schedule had on the 2012 Republican primary candidates, the conversation often turns to the hosts and the moderators.

Why are Republican candidates letting someone like ABC’s George Stephanopoulos — a former aide to Democrat Bill Clinton — ask them “gotcha questions” during a GOP primary?

Why are GOP presidential hopefuls agreeing to meet for a debate hosted by an outlet like MSNBC, a cable network that has increasingly grown hostile to Republicans as it self-identifies as a liberal news network?

As the Republican Party released a 100-page report on Monday about what the party can do better to win elections, committee members are recommending that the Republican National Committee step in to regulate these televised showdowns come 2016.

And RNC chairman Reince Priebus told The Daily Caller that the party does not only want to reduce the number of debates. The RNC, he said, also wants to explore the possibility of choosing who actually asks the questions during the debates.

“I think the party should have more control over who moderates, and we should have more control over the partners,” Priebus told TheDC. “And if we can come up with a mechanism to take more control over the debate processes, that’s what we’re going to try to do.”

You also need to fix the Candy Crowley’s of the world who outright help Obama lie. Why even have moderators. Have someone who reads a question and then microphones are turned on for a period of time.

I've watched ‘debates’ when EVERY person doing the questioning was a liberal so-called ‘journalist’.

Why not have one debate where every moderator is a conservative... have Rush AND Hannity AND Coulter.

I wonder if dems would scream about it? Would their butt boys in the MSM care if it worked against them?

The boys at the New York Times never noticed when the debates were tilted in their favor... would they'd notice if it was tilted in our favor? Just kidding - we all know the little sell outs would ‘notice’ immediately if their side was being treated unfairly... Oh the outrage... the outrage...

Just like the Germans overlooked their own flaws but easily spotted the ones in Jews... Or racists in the South in the 50’s were soooooo fair to fellow whites - but unfair to blacks. All the while thinking they were 'fair'.. Our modern press is one more example of a corrupted powerful ‘in’ group abusing power. Odd how these types never see themselves...

...and this was beyond their ability to figure out before the 2012 elections? Priebus should be gone...awful.

And why let blue states like Iowa, New Hampshire, and Navada vote first in republican primaries? So we can get McCain, Dole, and Romney candidates?

Someone mentioned to me just yesterday that the GOP was represented by a bunch of "rich, white old guys." I asked him if he had watched the convention & he said he had for lots of the time and that's what he saw there too.

I informed him, since I was there in my seat, that the only rich, white, old guy on that stage was Clint Eastwood!

He countered that maybe I didn't see everything that was on TV and I told him that whenever the gavel came down, I was in my seat other than a bathroom break and I could hear whomever was speaking. I also told him that I have the printed program and can prove to a certainty that most all speakers were minorities or at least women. In fact, I said we were wondering why some guys didn't even get to speak at the time.

I asked whether he watched on network or CSpan. He said network.

He then proceeded to chew me out over the way the networks cover the GOP to which I replied, we're not ever going to get a fair shot by the networks, including FOX, so he'd better get over it.

I also said that some of his words sounded just like talking points from the DNC and that he's parroting the same liberal networks he claims to hate!

We can do better. There are still real journalists out there - and those people are capable of shame. Real journalists don't like the revolving door between politics and 'journalists' either.

The revolving door cheapens the brand.

I remember when journalists were respected - when it was an honest profession. That's not the case today.

Studies showing how people feel about the press are shocking... Trust for journalists is slightly above trust in Used Car salesmen. You might think that's fine - but a paper sells credibility. Without that they're a paid press release service... whoring... and have little to nothing to offer.. The used car salesman at least has a car to sell...

And if shame doesn't work, our side can refuse to debate with all liberal moderators. We can do the debates on FOX... dems will be invited - as we'll be 'invited' to their debates...

A good airing out of how much MSM news sucks - how biased they are - would be a nice thing for the country to discuss. It's talked about on the internet - might be time to let the rest of the country in on the discussion...

Someone mentioned to me just yesterday that the GOP was represented by a bunch of "rich, white old guys."

Next time ask him (for the sake of argument) why he believes that is.

Then make him substantiate his no-doubt nebulous response with facts.

Suggest something along the line of "prove it or shut up, a**hole".

Why should we put up with such rank racism from the other side. It makes me sick.

The RNC should just self-produce the debates and offer the feed for free. And in self-producing, they can choose their moderator as they wish. Brit Hume sounds good. Remember that the intended audience is mostly GOP voters, although you can’t pick someone like Mark Levin who doesn’t (need to) show any patience for liberal/ Democrat views.

I more or less did especially during the exchange about the RNC Convention last summer. I said that if you failed to see all of those successful minorities who championed conservative causes - because you tuned in to shows that weren't showing them but rather "white talking heads, like Rove, et al" but could have watched the whole thing without interruption on CSpan, then that's your fault!"

I wasn't taking any crap off him, merely because he's an in-law, ha, ha!

I finished up by telling him that should the GOP accept abortion on demand or some such thing, amnesty and/or gay marriage, it's over for them because those voters already have a place to go, it's called the Democrat Party.

The rest of the voters need somewhere else to go and it used to be to the GOP but it sounds like Ari Fleischer and other RINOs are ready to throw us off the bus.

I don't like it but maybe it's' time to get the divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences, establish a true conservative party and quit the GOP all together as there isn't a need for pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, pro-gay marriage in the Republican Party and as it stands now, the base won't vote for any more Dole's, McCain's or Romney's no matter whom they pair them up with (and Paul Ryan's one of the insiders too, so forget him!)

Just swell.

That means, of course, that they’ll wind up with Wretched Madcow, Ed Schultz and Keith Olbermann.

The last two as it’s part of the GOP’s new JOBS PROGRAM!

Until conservative purchase a MAJOR network, it will continue to operate the same way.

Conservatives can not buy a Major Network. Remember when Ted Turner was a Conservative? He tried to buy a Network, they refused to sell to him, not unlike Rush was denied a football team.

We have a startup Network in San Diego but I doubt they will be able to get on any of the big Cable providers. Look at the Blaze's failed efforts to get carried.
