Washington (CNN) -- You probably recognize Sen. Rob Portman from his tireless campaigning for Mitt Romney in 2012. He was even on the short list to be Romney's running mate.
He's been a leading Republican voice on economic issues for four decades.
Now, the prominent Ohio conservative will be known for something else: reversing his hardline position against gay marriage.
He invited CNN to his Senate office to reveal the news. "I'm announcing today a change of heart on an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about that has to do with gay couples' opportunity to marry," Portman told CNN.

Anyone who suddenly abdicates their principles because of a personal situation was never a 'conservative' to begin with.
To me he always sounded like a fag himself. One thing is certain he has no principles, no faith, and no character at all. Instead of putting God first and trying to get the boy help he throws God under the bus. What a creepy loser. Just more fodder for the liberal media. This will be the big story for the rest of the day. Hopefully Fox News will ignore it, because the rest of the media will make it the top story of the year.
Never forget that the man who just lost to Obamagabe, IS THE FATHER OF HOMO MARRIAGE in the United States. Yes it is bad that the communist was relected, but homo loving Romney would have been just as adamant on overturning the DOMA. And he wanted Portman as his running mate. The GOP should be disbanded, and in the eternal words of Ronald Reagan, relegated to the “ash heap of history”.
That appears to be the case. He's dead to me now.
>> And its cause his son is a gay ala Cheney and his lesbo daughter. His precious baby cant be discriminated against, no no. You cant still love you son while opposing his right to marry another dude. This is major problem, people with gays in the family find it easier just to be pro-gay especially when its their kid. <<
I don't get what the hell is wrong with our society now. It's like people no longer understand the concept that you can love and support a family member/relative without endorsing all their actions. His son has a same-sex attraction, so that makes it OKAY if he wants to "marry" another dude? If his son had dyslexia, would it be OKAY if he wanted to be illiterate? Should we pass laws to celebrate illiteracy so his son feels better about not reading? Sheer insanity.
>> I remember there was a lady on here talking about her gay son and how conservative he was on 90% of issues, it was clear from the way she talked that shed help him rob a bank if thats what he wanted to do. <<
And the people brainwashed to support this BS will accuse you of hatred and bigotry against someone they know who is "gay" if you won't join them in drinking the kool-aid. I don't have any close family members who are "gay" (my dad has a "gay" distant second cousin he hasn't seen in 8 years). I mentioned to some pro-gay marriage "devout Catholic" that her position was going against her faith, and she starts going off about a member of our local sci-fi chapter that I know really well is "gay" and HOW DARE *I* "discriminate" again him. I have never bothered the guy about his gay lifestyle or tried to talk him out of it, if he wants to live with a dude I'm not going to interfere with it, but I sure as hell am not going to JOIN him in celebrating it publicly. Whatever happened to all their talking points about how what people do "in the bedroom" of their own homes should be left alone? Apparently not, now everyone else has to champion what they do.
>> Are the floodgates gonna open now? Is half of the of establishment Republican gonna go pro-homo? Will there be a major pro-homo Republican running in the 2016 primaries? <<
So far, only Jon "still polling 1%" Huntman is the only GOP presidential candidate to sell his soul on gay marriage, and he was "against" it in 2012 the way Kerry was "against" it in 2004 and Obama in 2008. What sucks is we can't get rid of this turd Portman until 2016. I agree with fieldmarshaldj, if we can't have Ken Blackwell as GOP Chairman, he'd make an excellent Senator.
Oh, I won't forget that any more than I'll forget he is also the father of Ubama's communist healthcare. I certainly did not vote for Mittens. The GOP wants to try to foist this sh** on me? Check off, Charlie. No sale.

Good thing I’ve been gone from the state for 13 years or I would’ve wasted a vote on him.
Dramitic, my foot. Portman is merely another republican weather vane. This time the wind was blowing from the direction of his son.
Like so many, the man has no core that can be depended upon.
Another RINO ballyhooed by the MSM as a conservative
Romney was pro-homo as Governor of MA why would he not count?
I hear you. I would have probably voted for him too if I was living in Ohio in 2010. He's dead to me now.
Ah there is the heart of the matter because you see their is nothing WRONG with being homosexual (which of course is why liberals themselves frequently make fun of gays). Some people like chocolate and others vanilla. Telling your gay son he can't marry a man is like telling him he can't order his favorite flavor, not like telling him he can't do something wrong like blast his radio at 2AM or something insane like wear socks on his hands when he goes to work or school.
Not liking it that your son doesn't like girls, well that would be like not liking it if he didn't eat what you eat and only a horrible person would fail to embrace their child's diet.
BTW I'm a picky eater, while my mom is understanding she still hasn't accepted it completely. And my brother the chef is a total BIGOT about it. ;)
