There’s no need for the designation as the first when there is no second.

Ad majorem Dei Gloriam. The intellect of a Jesuit and the compassion of a Franciscan. (A conflation of Saints Francis of Assisi and Francis Xavier) The first pope from the Americas. An Argentinian of Italian descent and a chemist by training! Splendid!!!

~~~~~
A fantastic combination. He will be very interesting.
Yeah, I knew what you referred to.
When somebody figures out how to turn Francis the Argentine Eye-talian into Peter the Roman, let me know.
Otherwise what I spoke of, mark or no mark, is going to be a big problem. And it is coming.
“We expect the Pope to be an advocate for the poor, that is no surprise. Some say there’s a liberal ideology there, but on the other hand he is against same sex marriage. As far as Popes go, he fits the bill perfectly.”
I don’t think any cardinal who is against same sex marriage and/or pro-choice would have a chance to get elected.
Does he advocate for the poor through individual charity, or does he support socialist government intervention? Seems to be some uncertainty how he will go in the future. And all of Latin America is waiting to see.
Got it. And you are of course correct. Christians are a huge obstacle to the 'progressive' secular humanism of our time. We have very real enemies without and within. It has been coming for a long time and it will get much worse.
Below is something Pope Benedict wrote over 20 years ago concerning this.
…The process will be long and wearisome as was the road from the false progressivism on the eve of the French Revolution – when a bishop might be thought smart if he made fun of dogmas and even insinuated that the existence of God was by no means certain . . .
But when the trial of this sifting is past, a great power will flow from a more spiritualized and simplified Church. Men in a totally planned world will find themselves unspeakably lonely. If they have completely lost sight of God, they will feel the whole horror of their poverty. Then they will discover the little flock of believers as something wholly new. They will discover it as a hope that is meant for them, an answer for which they have always been searching in secret.
thanks again...
Pope Francis. There’s already a wiki article about him. It says he took the name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.
“There are a lot of Christians who recognize our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
_______________________________________________________
Absolutely—I could not agree more. I was raised Presbyterian, but married a Catholic (most Quebecers are Catholic, though most don’t attend church); my children were baptized Catholic (my parents weren’t happy, but we did have a special ceremony at the church we attended when I was a child). Yet I’m the only one who attends church now, in the family.
I go to a Catholic church because, given where I live, the Protestant options are minimal, unless I want to attend the United Church of Canada (IIRC); I went a couple of times when I first moved here and couldn’t take the anti-American rhetoric I heard. Politics should not be mixed in with religious ceremonies.
I’ve thought about actually becoming a Catholic, but my father would not like it too much (old hostilities; he was not allowed to attend his Catholic friend’s wedding when he was a young man). These old grievances seem so trivial compared to the big picture.
I’ve been watching the news all day long the past couple of days. I think Pope Francis is a servant of the Lord and will lead his flock with dedication, humility and faith.
Everyone who believes in Christ is together in spirit, I agree with you. This may sound stupid, but when the new Pope asked us all to pray, I got down on my knees—and had a hard time getting up. LOL. Getting too old... :)
I hope this post makes sense. :)
Julie
From Coast-To-Coast AM:
In the first half-hour, prophecy expert John Hogue reacted to the selection of the new Pope— Pope Francis, who took his name from St. Francis of Assisi. In line with St. Malachy’s prophecy that the final pope would have Peter in his name, Hogue noted that St. Francis’ original name was Francesco di Pietro di Bernardone. He also spoke about one of Nostradamus’ quatrains that referred to a new Pope who would hail from ancient France (St. Francis’ mother hailed from France), “and make a promise to the enemy who will cause great plague during his reign.”
