National Shooting Sports Foundation Warns of Media Plan to Divide, Conquer Gun Rights Groups

Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) president Steve Sanetti is warning gun owners to be beware the mainstream media’s efforts to pit one gun rights group against another in an attempt to divide and conquer.

For example, Sanetti points out that a March 5 Washington Post article is constructed around the theory that the NSSF does not stand with the NRA in opposition to universal background checks.

The WAPO does this by equating the NSSF’s support for improvements to the current background check system with support for universal background checks.

Sanetti rejects this argument out of hand, and makes it clear that when the NSSF says they support an “effective, complete background check,” they mean making the one we have now work better, by adding certain mental health components to it.

But regarding universal background checks, the NSSF stands in opposition right alongside the NRA.

As Sanetti put it:

Regarding so-called universal background checks, or background checks that extend beyond retail sales or to private transfers such as a father passing on his favorite hunting rifle to his son, our big concern is one shared by millions of firearm owners–that enforcing checks of used firearm transfers between individuals will lead to the creation of a national gun registry of firearms, something that Congress has expressly prohibited.

Stand firm on the 2nd amendment as written and no divide can be exploited. In fact push for a reversal of all unconstitutional gun laws and let the media wet themselves over that.

Exactly. “Shall not be infringed” is very clear. I’m willing to have a dialogue on gun laws. My side of the conversation is the above quote from the Bill of Rights. I’m willing to listen as the socialist thugs explain exactly what infringements on our God-given right to keep and bear arms they wish to impose - but only in the same way that I would listen to the plans of any other enemy of my country. I will not compromise with evil, but it’s important to listen so we can stop them in their tracks.

As far as I’m concerned, dangerous people should be locked up and everyone else should be free to own and carry all the weapons they want.

If only our elected officials would act this way. The lack the spine to actually stand up for the very document that allows them to hold office.

If they ignore the constitution, they should not be allowed to continue represent us.

They have been doing this for years, touting the Fudd's saying they do not want one nor do they care if scary black rifles are banned.

They always seem able to find a few of them when needed.

Dividing and conquering Conservatives shouldn’t be that hard.

“Shall not be infringed” is very clear.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms", which is the "what" that shall not be infringed, is not necessarily all that clear. We need to clarify it to protect it from infringement.

The will CERTAINLY try that, as it worked VERY EFFECTIVELY with getting Obamacare passes.

The told the insurance companies that they would have a captive audience (i.e., the mandate), they told doctors and hospitals that they would be the payer of last resort (for deadbeats), and they told the customers that they would NEVER lose their health insurance, and that it would get cheaper.

So they’ll do the same here. They’ll get sport shooting groups to think that GOA is insane and that even the NRA is a bit paranoid...and with that they’ll get their way.

But I still don’t see it being as easy, given the issue and the number of Republicans in the House.

If they ignore the constitution, they should not be allowed to continue represent us.

This article has it right when it blames the MSM.

Can you imagine elected officials working against the Constitution if the MSM slammed them and wrote editorials asking how dare they violate their oath?

Nope, the elected officials would tow the line. But, that does not happen. Instead, when elected officials violate their oath of office, the MSM praises them and says that they have "grown" in office.

The root problem is the sick ideas of "progressivism" and the way it has morphed into "soft" totalitarianism that will not tolerate any limit on government power. The MSM is made up of "progressives".

The guy who ambushed firemen on Christmas was out of prison after beating his own grandmother to death with a hammer. If he hadn’t been released he couldn’t have ignored the law that said he couldn’t be armed.

I disagree. We are always on the defensive and the Progressives keep making incremental steps towards a full ban. As we speak they are making not-so-small steps. It’s time to take the offensive. You ask for it all and then take what you can get. It’s time to use incrementalism in our favor.

perhaps there needs to be a united front.

the saf, nra, nssf, should have their leaders with a picture together or issue a joint statement.

of course the MSM will gin up a fake anti-second second amendment group (ala rev. wallis, communist nuns)

Amen to all of that. Frankly I think both open and concealed carry should be legal and unlicensed nationally. As in VT and AK. AZ too?

Yes, open and concealed carry, no license required in AZ. One of a few things Brewer got right.

Yes, thank you, I thought AZ was the third state to allow all types of carry without licensing. VT was that way from its inception.
