New procedures give restaurant inspectors cups that can hold 17 fluid ounces and they'll be instructed to issue a violation only when a cup is found to 'clearly exceed' 16 ounces.
There will be no SWAT teams policing Mayor Bloombergs controversial new ban on large sodas and other sugary drinks starting Tuesday, but city inspectors will be armed with 17-ounce cups.
The Health Department plans to use regular restaurant inspections to make sure eateries are not selling sugary beverages in servings larger than 16 ounces. But the inspectors will have specially ordered cups to help them enforce the new rule, Deputy Health Commissioner Daniel Kass said.
He spelled out the new procedures in exacting detail in an affidavit recently filed as part of the legal challenge to Bloombergs anti-big-soda policy. The measuring cups that we will be issuing ... will be able to contain 17 fluid ounces, Kass said. Inspectors will be instructed to issue a violation only when a cup is found to clearly exceed 16 ounces when measured in the inspectors measuring cup, he added.

Drones will be watching.
Just a question....
Hand out 12 Oz cups and all the refills they want!
Food cops can go pound sand!
Awww, it went over so well at Gibson Guitars though!

As long as they can count to 16 it’s all good with Doomberg.
I wouldn’t touch an inspector’s “cup” with a 10 foot cattle prod. You know where it’s been.
This is more of Bloomturd’s liberal insanity. New York City has more important things to be concerned about than a 16 ounce soda.
Number one concern should be Bloomburg’s sanity.
Number two is which insane asylum to put him in.
Number three is how to imprison the City’s Health Board who voted for the 16 ounce cup limit. They are anti-free enterprise as well as socialist state nanny schmucks. Jail is the only place for them so as to keep the decent, hardworing people of NYC from their Marxist “state uber alles” plans. (Hey, Hitler borrowed from Marx and Engles, not the other way round).
The Number four concern is how to get Gozer the Gozerian to a NY City Council meeting where he can have plenty of fun with the fools who rule there.
I love Ghostbusters for quotes and images.
They better bring 2 cups...
One will probably get shoved up their A**
That, my FRiend, is the entire idea in a nutshell.
Approximate prices I see around here are 16oz drink = 99 cents; 24 oz drink = $1.19; 32 oz drink = $1.49. Now, 2-16 oz drinks = $1.98: which way does the city generate more sales tax revenue?
Even 2 or 3 cents/drink, times a few million drinks per day really adds up.
Educating and encouraging people towards healthier lifestyle is all well and good but this is just silly. There are many ways to get around this.
When you buy 2 16 ozers, the second will be provided for a cost of only 50 cents
So I could tape three cups together and still be legal.
No doubt they will measure total capacity on cups to the brim and not what you actually put in them.
I still say the quick solution is to pelt all city workers with 16 oz sodas.
The government should have not role in either, especially the "encouraging" part.
This is the same government that pays millions to sit on the ass and do nothing. If you want to stop having fat bears, stop giving away free food.
Brings us back to my bumpersticker idea...
“Socialism is for Assholes”
Any freedom loving, productive folk in NY need to move out. Move to NH at the very least, or really sit down and define freedom for yourself and find a state that most closely matches that.
New procedures give restaurant inspectors cups that can hold 17 fluid ounces and they'll be instructed to issue a violation only when a cup is found to 'clearly exceed' 16 ounces.Apropos of nothing, Bloomberg only travels with one or two bodyguards. And they don't look like light eaters.
