In February, Texas announced that the state, along with the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum (TESCCC,) would enact major changes to the controversial curriculum management system dubbed CSCOPE. The system received a litany of complaints from faculty members and parents alike concerning its lack of transparency (parents were allegedly not permitted to review lesson-plans), lack of oversight from the State Board of Education, and for allegedly imposing oppressive working conditions for faculty members.
CSCOPE was created so that teachers could frame their year around teaching points required by the state. Lessons, which are written by CSCOPE staff and current and former teachers, can be updated and delivered online, making it more cost-effective than standard textbooks.
To note just how off-color some of the CSCOPE curriculum is, consider that the Texas CSCOPE Review, an independent watchdog group, uncovered an out-of-date, optional CSCOPE lesson-plan on terrorism World History Unit 12 Lesson 07″ which allegedly likens the Boston Tea Party to an act of terrorism.
The system also recently asked students to design a flag for a new socialist nation.
To glean greater insight, Glenn Beck invited special guests David Barton and Pat Gray, along with teachers Mary Bowen, Stan Hartzler and Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick to discuss what is truly going on within their states education system.

Why didn't 'ol Dan just introduce SOMETHING to completely disband CSCOPE? I haven't been able to get a direct answer to that.
Since the Fabian Socialist John Dewey, public schools have been using indoctrination and “group think” forced on children to undermine their parent’s theology and Ethical system. It led to the “sexual revolution” and the acceptance of Communism and Socialism as “good”, “more perfect” ideologies which are incompatible with the philosophy of the USA—John Marshall, Adam Smith, John Locke, Montesquieu and, of course, all the Founders.
John Taylor Gatto’s books explains this “herd conditioning” in his book, “The Underground History of American Education”. Might be free online.
Children should not be institutionalized before age of Reason (7) in a “group” forced way to see the world where they learn total dependence on authority figure. They should ideally have a childhood like Lincoln’s or Mark Twain, Ben Franklin, where they never set foot in a school until after age 7. and are out by age 13 with all the reading, rhetoric, spelling, math skills which can be directed any way they are interested.
Why do you think Lincoln could “think” differently than the majority? He went to “school” less than a year of his life. He was an independent thinker and relied on the intellect for his decisions-—not on how he “felt” or “popular views”. He could resist pressure from group think.
Most kids today are controlled by the “group think” and “emotions” devoid of Wisdom and knowledge about anything. It is a result of the removal (intentional) of all Traditions and History—(Classical Ed.) from schools. They learn Howard Zinn lies and “feelings” and nothing about Adam Smith and Free Markets or Cicero’s “Justice” and ideas which created “Rule of Law” (Higher Law than man’s). (Classical Ed. always taught this, until socialist Dewey).
They should have loving parents or relatives teaching them their “worldview”. Having children’s “plastic minds” being shaped by the State is dangerous and evil (JS Mill) and will lead to a socialist worldview (slaves for the state).
Individualism is destroyed-—collectivism is reinforced. That way the “useless eaters” will be able to be easily killed. No family loyalty, since the concept of family is eliminated and the State is “mommy and daddy” -—they will not care if their parents are institutionalized (or eliminated) when they are older. They will turn over their children (if they even marry) to the state to “educate” or kill them-—too much trouble (costs are too high)—(It’s “hard” work-—the perseverance of our Forefathers is being destroyed in the “system”-—all character is being destroyed (Virtue) since Dewey——Cultural Marxists designed a curricula (Dr. Ruggs/Dr. Counts/Billy Ayers) to destroy Virtue (it includes Sex Education to destroy innocence and normal sexual development in children).......Make them obsessed with sex to destroy all long term relationships so children are easily controlled because they are emotionally damaged.
The public schools since Dewey is a planned destruction of future generations so a totalitarian state can be put in place—Central Control of everyone.
It is proven by many people like Charlotte Iserbyt, BK Eakman, Gatto, etc. Blooms book, “The Closing of the American Mind” explains it also.
He said that they didn’t ‘have the votes’.
Thanks, I’d not heard that. Sad that they don’t have the votes to shut down this Agenda 21 program in Texas :(
Nazi style indoctrination of our children is on course in America.
Glen Beck is warning this may be a blueprint for the rest of the country's public schools.
The Tea Party was more like corporate sabotage.
“The Closing of the American Mind” is a bit different, since school at that level isn’t compulsory, though gubmint does waste an ungodly amount of money on it.
“The panel said concerned Americans should send letters to the Attorney General and that emergency legislation should be enacted to help teachers push back.”
Oh, yeah, I bet that will really work!
“To glean greater insight, Glenn Beck invited special guests David Barton and Pat Gray, along with teachers Mary Bowen, Stan Hartzler and Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick to discuss what is truly going on within their states education system.”
To people outside of Texas, Dan Patrick is basically the “Ted Cruz” of our State Senate. He also does not take hostages. But, I suspect, even Dan was shocked by the AUDACITY of Big Education to disregard STATE LAWS in pursuit of their agenda. I’ve heard Dan enough on the radio (he owns a station in Houston), to get the feeling that he really believed the people in Big Education were trying to put the children first. He now KNOWS that is not true.
So CSCOPE has been a big awakening for him and probably now has him lined up with people like myself that cut our teeth on Thomas Sowell and already knew just who it is that runs our schools, and yes, even in Texas, and YES, even in your little town in Texas. They are all BEASTS, including the vast majority of the ‘teachers’.
“Why didn’t ‘ol Dan just introduce SOMETHING to completely disband CSCOPE? I haven’t been able to get a direct answer to that.”
I don’t have an inside line, but I suspect a few things. First, the shock effect - it’s really no different than finding out that your lovely 16 year old daughter already has 3 kids that are being raised by their fathers, and you thought she was still a virgin. That’s about how it seems to find out that 75% of school districts are circumventing the State Board of Education, who are (were) the deciders (pretty much) as to what gets taught - and you thought that was the case until only 4 months ago.
Next, the schools, most likely, already shredded their textbooks - so they have NOTHING to fall back on if CSCOPE is eliminated. While we can say “tough fecal matter”, it’s tougher for him to do so.
Finally, a LOT of Republicans are OWNED by Big Education (including our House Speaker), unfortunately, and would not support Dan, if he REALLY tried to put the hammer down.
CSCOPE Ping!!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
And yet people will leave their children in these schools. With teachers who are accountable to no one, curricula they can’t view, zero tolerance policies, comprehensive sex education...
Government schools are middle-class welfare programs, free babysitting for working mothers. Thank God I married a man who believes in homeschooling as much as I do, with family members who would step in and make sure our daughter never has to go to an institutional school if anything happens to us.
My daughter is not quite four. When I take her out in public I’m realizing she’s the oldest kid around. All the other kids are in pre-k. That’s a damned shame. We spent a handful of minutes every day on phonics and numbers. The rest of the day she plays with her toys, reads books with me, or helps me with chores and errands. That’s the important sort of thing for her right now, and it’s what kids in kindergarten miss out on in favor of learning to do the same thing as every other five year old in class.
Parents: you can homeschool, if you want to. My mom had a high school education and I was in calculus at 15. If she could do it anyone can. You just have to care enough to try.
