Sen. Rand Paul declared victory Thursday after Attorney General Eric Holder assured him that the president cannot use a drone to kill a noncombatant American on U.S. soil -- an assurance Paul had sought during his 13-hour filibuster the day before.
"Hooray!" Paul responded when the letter was read to him for the first time during an interview with Fox News. "For 13 hours yesterday, we asked him that question, so there is a result and a victory. Under duress and under public humiliation, the White House will respond and do the right thing."
During his dramatic filibuster, which delayed a vote on CIA director nominee John Brennan, Paul had demanded the administration clarify the government's authority to kill on U.S. soil. The filibuster ended past midnight early Thursday morning. The Senate voted, 63-34, to confirm Brennan later Thursday afternoon.

Good job Rand Paul, unfortunately the leadership of your party basically sold you and the country out. We had a chance to use the continuing resolution to defund 0bamacare and it didn’t happen. Why not?
The insiders are AFRAID of the outsiders in which Sen. Paul is one of them.
With loopholes and “is”s yet to be defined, I would say he was left hanging out to dry by his own party. Victory? Not in the least.
The filthy traitors in the White House will mow us down if they have to. And they’ll probably have to.
No disrespect to RP but why did that filibuster not include Benghazi?
Paul did a good thing.
The letter from Holder still allows him to define what “combat” means.
Nothing has changed.
Obozo: "I was going to drone the mall in Denver, but that dang Holder said I couldn't"
Dang, I feel better...
Rand Paul did a fine thing.
Beyond Holder and Obama, the most disgusting jerks of the day are McCain and Graham.
I support Sen. Paul, too; but, no way is this one-time filibuster a victory. With ‘rats/this regime, what they do, not what they say is the key, and Holder’s one word denial isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. As you stated regards Waco scenarios or gun control resistance, this bunch will use the slightest provocation to unleash weponized drones on the population and solidify its hold on power.
We need to be terrified, TERRIFIED, of both Partis. While I am not entirely convinced that this was anything more than a stunt by Paul, the fact that any POSTUS can do this and that it is sanctioned by both Parties and SCOTUS . . . well . . . is this your America? Sure ain’t mine.
Agreed, smooth.
But given Obama’s track record, how can anyone be sure it isn’t just another big fat lie?
Keep it tightly focused - that is why it worked, and the proof is the GOP-e is now forming its firing squad. ELIMINATE RINOS is my new bumper sticker (wonder if anyone makes one)?
“ELIMINATE RINOS is my new bumper sticker (wonder if anyone makes one)?”
Or perhaps you could try to get involved in something useful. Bumper stickers are for pussies.
Here ya go....
It's a start.
Victory? Maybe, in the sense that a football team that hasn’t moved the ball in a half gets a first down. It’s a good start, and he got the regime to admit they lack the power to do something, while making them look bad. In football it’s a first down, in baseball, it’s a base hit. We need lots of them.
It gets Rand’s foot in the door for potential leadership in the GOP, but he needs to follow up.
Agreed!
Correct Correct Correct!!!
I am in absolute awe of Naval Captain John McCain and his service to our nation and his extreme honor as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. I wish I could be half the man that Captain John McCain was but know full well that I would be far short of that standard.
I do not wish to be 10 times the standard of Senator McCain as I now far exceed that low standard.
What the hell happened to that great man?
