The murder case against half-Latino neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman was dealt a devastating blow Tuesday, when prosecutors acknowledged that their star witness, the 19-year old former girlfriend of the late Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, lied under oath.
The woman, who also told police she was on the phone with Martin shortly before his death, falsely testified that she was in the hospital on the day of Martin’s funeral — perhaps to garner sympathy.
“In fact, she lied,” defense attorney Don West said. Prosecutors also acknowledged her lie, but were reportedly vague about whether they would charge the woman with perjury.
The woman’s lie demonstrates another hole in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman.
Zimmerman faces trial for second-degree murder after he shot and killed 17-year old Florida teenager Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Martin was suspended from school at the time of the shooting. Zimmerman claims he acted in self-defense while Martin pummeled him with punches, slammed his head against the pavement, and reached for Zimmerman’s gun. Photographs from the night of the shooting showing cuts and gashes on the back of Zimmerman’s head seem to corroborate Zimmerman’s version of events....

Probably, but the two people railroading Mr. Zimmerman, the prosecutor and governor, are both Republicans.

The defense team should move for “dismissal” immediately.
The state has no case against Zimmerman. This is purely a political trial, hoping to mollify people so that there is not rioting in the streets.
I think that Zimmerman showed a lack of good judgement by getting into that situation in the first place, but that is for another thread.
There isn’t now nor ever was a legal case against Zimmerman. Welcome to post-constitutional America.
I just had an online argument with a liberal about this and his final statement was ‘Zimmerman set out to get Martin with a chip on his shoulder’.
I asked him to prove it, but no response.
Hope that lawyer for the Martins - Benjamin Crump - gets charged with perjury too, because he was the clown who started this whole charade.
And while they’re at it, charge him also with obstruction of justice and libel, for the way he’s behaved so far to defendant Zimmerman. Looking forward to the Crump disbarrment.
How about the people who put a price on Mr. Zimmerman’s head. Last time I checked, that was a felony.
Any word on charging the racists who not only assumed Zimmerman’s guilt, but actually put out a bounty on him?

For those just starting to pay attention (e.g., the local Florida press) to “Witness 8”, here’s some very good work — done almost a year ago — showing that “DeeDee”
- did not consider herself to be Trayvon’s “girlfriend”
- could not possibly have been on the phone for him for multiple hundreds of minutes that day, and maybe not at all
- could not possibly have gone to the hospital (yes, this was well known by April 21, 2012)
The state's case must be boned if the media is now referring to George as "half-Latino".
To this day I continue to read and hear accounts which state that Zimmerman confronted Martin when it actually was the other way around.

“The defense has only recently (Sept) discovered there is no 16-year-old girlfriend DeeDee who was on the phone with Trayvon on the night of the shooting, and who was in the hospital on the weekend of Trayvon’s funeral.
“Until September the defense was operating under the assumption Benjamin Crump was telling the truth.
“That’s why the defense was asking for an address of this witness and the prosecution would not provide one.”
The killing of St. Trayvon saved the world from the curse of his unsupported offspring, his further criminality and inevitable medical expenses treating GSW’s inflicted by competitors.
