Hollywood bids a fond farewell to Hugo Chavez By: Patrick Gavin March 6, 2013 07:05 AM EST
As the legacy of Hugo Chavez gets debated in the wake of his passing, filmmakers Michael Moore and Oliver Stone took to Twitter to praise the late Venezuelan president.
You wont hear much nice about him in the US media in the next few days. So, I thought Id say a couple things to provide some balance wrote Moore.
Hugo Chavez declared the oil belonged 2 the ppl. He used the oil $ 2 eliminate 75% of extreme poverty, provide free health & education 4 all. That made him dangerous. US approved of a coup to overthrow him even though he was a democratically-elected President. 54 countries around the world allowed the US to detain(& torture) suspects. Latin America, thanks 2 Chavez, was the only place that said no.
Moore shared a picture of him meeting with Chavez in 2009 at the Venice Film Fest.
We spoke for over an hour. He said he was happy 2 finally meet someone Bush hated more than him.
Oliver Stone said, I mourn a great hero to the majority of his people and those who struggle throughout the world for a place. Hated by the entrenched classes, Hugo Chavez will live forever in history. My friend, rest finally in a peace long earned.
Roseanne Barr also tweeted out her mourning over Chavez, saying, Ruling Classes hated Hugo Chavez. RIP. Recording artist M.I.A said the same .
Sean Penn said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter that the people of the United States lost a friend it never knew it had. And poor people around the world lost a champion.

Weighty commentary from Moore and Barr.
He was (and our War on Drugs gave him that opportunity).
If these idiots truly believed what they claim they would give all their money to “the poor” and live as most people live, paycheck to paycheck. They don’t/won’t and never will truly believe a dictator who can take your hard earned wealth and distribute as he sees fit is better than our system. Such freaking liars
My they soon follow..
Well, of course. How do you buy influence and good PR from Western mouths? You supply them with cash, drugs, and sex (women, girls, or boys), and you provide them with a secure place to party to their hearts content.
How fitting that, on the day of that 60th anniversary, Hugo Chavez dies and his 5th Column and "useful idiots" in America once again get to shame themselves in the eyes history.
Even the best of the Democrats have been "useful idiots" when America needed them to face down Communist Tyranny. Here's "Give 'em Hell" Harry Truman speaking of Joe Stalin, in 1948 (2 years after Winston Churchill gave his "Iron Curtain" speech):
"I like old Joe. Joe is a decent fellow, but he is a prisoner of the Politburo."
COMMUNISTS of a feather stick together.
These hollyweird Rodman type socialists haven’t a clue what the average Venzuelan puts up with or how they live. In fact beside playing a dangerous game most don’t even have a clue what goes on here in this country. If one ever goes over there and gets knocked off while there, others still wouldn’t get the message.
Don't worry....you liberals, you can see him again when you die... he's waiting for you in HELL!!
All these so-called celebrities are authoritarian socialists. Their comments are all you need to know about them.
It should be renamed the Film Garbage Guild!!
Waiting for Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte to weigh in.
Probably too distraught to go public right now.
You know, with certain folks, you just have to know that you're going to come across muddy ground in a drought.
I bid my fond farewell to Hugo Chavez shortly after I got up this morning: two large loaves, some paper browned on one side and a fast flush.
“If these idiots truly believed what they claim they would give all their money to the poor and live as most people live, paycheck to paycheck.”
Exactly. Hypocrites, on a good day.
But that would ruin the acronym.
But that would ruin the acronym.
So True...it would!!
Michael Moore wants to âprovide some balanceâ. I hope that that balance is up to the task.
...the irony is delicious...and logically only an elephant could balance His Rotundity...
