Sean Penn on the Death of Hugo Chavez: "I Lost a Friend"
Despite his criticisms of the United States, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez did have supporters in Hollywood, including Sean Penn, who mourned Chavez's death Tuesday.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dead at 58
"Today the people of the United States lost a friend it never knew it had," Penn said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "And poor people around the world lost a champion. I lost a friend I was blessed to have. My thoughts are with the family of President Chavez and the people of Venezuela."
Chavez, 58, died Tuesday after a battle with an undisclosed type of pelvic cancer, ABC News reports. Although he was a polarizing leader who befriended some of the world's dictators, he remained popular in his country as a champion of the poor. Always outspoken, Chavez criticized oil companies and the Catholic Church. He also often criticized the United States' treatment of Latin America and at different times called President George W. Bush a "liar," a "murderer" and, during a 2006 speech before the UN General Assembly, "the devil."
A longtime supporter of the late president, Penn first met Chavez in Venezuela in 2007. Penn joined Chavez at an election rally in August 2012 and attended a candlelight vigil for Chavez in Bolivia in December. "He's one of the most important forces we've had on this planet, and I'll wish him nothing but that great strength he has shown over and over again," Penn said at the vigil. "I do it in love, and I do it in gratitude."

Ditto!
Join him dude.
Yeah, so did Fidel Castro (who personally assassinated hundreds of “counter-revolutionaries” when he took power and regularly jails politically undesirable homosexuals) and however-you-spell-his name in Iran (who’d murder your Jewish Hollywood buddies if given half a chance)...birds of a feather......
Maybe Sean can bum a ride to the funeral on Air Force One.
Duuuuuuude, like, get a LIFE!/s;)
Oh and he can take Bill Maher with him too
Doc Savage had a great monologue mentioning the late Venezuelan dictator and his Hollywood buddy Penn about 4 years ago:

A tour de force of sarcasm and brilliance IMHO.
Sean’s been stoned since the third grade.
I wonder if God has plans for the plane carrying Penn, Sarandon, and Sheehan to the funeral.
Maybe if a Kennedy is piloting.
“He’s one of the most important forces we’ve had on this planet,” Sean P on Chavez
His gravitational field didn’t come close to New Jersey’s black-hole governor.
Ho-hum; just Sean Penn doing his best Dennis Rodman imitation.
I knew it.
It’s easier to be a communist if you are already rich.
Yup. Join your jackass commie friend in hell, you Hollywood puke. satan has a new playtoy right now..
Notice the Commie lovers who love Communism SO much refuse to live in Communist countries..yeah they all talk the talk, saying how they would leave but they NEVER do..they stay here, making millions while trashing this wonderful country. I’d love to see the likes of Michael Moore, Jane Fonda, Sean Penn, and Oliver Stone, how long they survive living under Communist rule..I give them a week before they beg and plead to come back here
Can you smell the sulphur now you evil bastard?
