Romney: ‘It kills me’ not to be in White House
yahoo ^ | march 3, 2013 | Dylan Stableford

Posted on 03/03/2013 10:10:39 AM PST by lowbridge

Mitt Romney says it "kills" him that he's not president. But he doesn't blame Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or anything else on his loss to President Barack Obama--except his campaign's failure to connect with minority voters.

“I lost my election because of my campaign," Romney said on "Fox News Sunday" in his first television interview since his November defeat, "not because of what anyone else did."

The former Massachusetts governor refused place blame on Christie, who some Republicans say elevated Obama in his embrace of the president in the wake of the storm.

Romney said his inability to win over black and Hispanic voters--and the damage done by those disastrous "47 percent" comments--ultimately derailed his White House bid.

Ann Romney, though, pointed the finger at the fourth estate. “It was not just the campaign’s fault," Ann Romney said. "I believe it was the media's fault as well, in that he was not being given a fair shake--that people weren’t allowed to really see him for who he was. ... I’m happy to blame the media.”

She added: “I totally believe at this moment, if Mitt were there in the office, that we would not be facing sequestration right now."

..you lost because you alienated the Republican base and proved via your history that you were no ‘severe’ conservative...

So "the base" decided that it wanted a President who'd be wrong *all* of the time instead of,perhaps,20% (or maybe even 50%)of the time.Brilliant move,"base".

Mormonism's whiny fall-back position since the 1830s...persecution, persecution, persecution.

I don’t buy the “base” didn’t vote for him.....I despised Romney as much as anyone, but I still held my nose and voted for him.

Neither he nor McCain seemed to give a damn, if they did they would have disclosed all the information they have on Obama.

All these politicians are afraid of what the media does to you if you question our dear leader.

The guy has been running for President for a decade. He should have known the score if he was paying attention. You should be able to develop a strategy to deal with this in 10 years.

Same thing with his taxes. He acted as if he was astonished that anyone would be interested in his taxes. Again, he had 10 years to prepare a strategy for dealing with this.

What a waste of 10 years.

Well, the opposite of purity is corruption. All those Romney votes gave the GOP carte blanc to move left. Which they have. See the past 4 months of Republican cave ins, abandonment of the 2A/issues etc.

So Brilliant move there GSC. In 3 and a half years, when the GOP nominates Rosie O’donnell to run against Hillary, will you vote for her because she claimed to be conservative too?

Either vote for what you believe in or don’t bitch.

First, third parties have a 200 year history of losing badly. You know the definition of insanity, right?

Second, there is a difference between making stupid statements in public and fighting for your agenda in the congress legislatively. The stupid public will hear the public statements but 99% of the same stupid people do not read congressional bills and drafts.

Yes, politics is a blood sport. If GOP does not field politically smart people, they deserve to lose elections. Nothing is gained by making “feel good” statements in public. Much is lost when those stupid statements cause the socialist & Godless democrats win elections. Obama now has all the power, Romney has zero power to change anything.

I don't see much evidence at all that the base stayed home in the state-by-state election results.

I don't think it's really blacks and Hispanics, but middle-aged and younger women in swing states, that cost him the election.

And you're not going to get those women in the future by appealing to the base in the manner that people on FR fantasize about.

Romney failed to connect with majority voters.

I believe people will vote for a candidate that they perceive as a good leader, even if they disagree with him on some issues....Many voted for Reagan twice, even if they had some misgivings about his policies, because he stood out as a good leader....The Republicans have not fielded such a candidate since then. The Bush’s won because of weak opposition.

Uh, conservatives also deserve blame for this too. They didn’t get off their butts in January, February, and March of last year and they allowed the establishment to nominate Romney. Then in the fall a number of conservatives stayed home rather than vote for the lesser of two evils and thus four more years of disaster. If we repeat this cycle in 2016 and get another moderate like Christie or Jeb Bush then it really is over for the GOP but conservatives need to work a helluva lot harder than in 2012. There was a lot of bellyaching and crying over moderates but not enough grunt work was done to prevent them from picking Romney.

Same here. But most ‘conservatives’ will trash her even they know she is right, simply because they are too prideful to admit their mistake.

None of the Republican candidates stood out and clearly separated themselves from the rest...all were deeply flawed...and frankly there were too many of them....It needs to get whittled down to three max, by the time the primaries start.
