I don't see much evidence at all that the base stayed home in the state-by-state election results.
I don't think it's really blacks and Hispanics, but middle-aged and younger women in swing states, that cost him the election.
And you're not going to get those women in the future by appealing to the base in the manner that people on FR fantasize about.
I believe people will vote for a candidate that they perceive as a good leader, even if they disagree with him on some issues....Many voted for Reagan twice, even if they had some misgivings about his policies, because he stood out as a good leader....The Republicans have not fielded such a candidate since then. The Bush’s won because of weak opposition.
I’m convinced that Romney presented a picture of people rolling up their sleeves and going back to work and a significant segment of the demographic you list responded, “Are you kidding me?!!”
