Mitt Romney says it "kills" him that he's not president. But he doesn't blame Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or anything else on his loss to President Barack Obama--except his campaign's failure to connect with minority voters.
I lost my election because of my campaign," Romney said on "Fox News Sunday" in his first television interview since his November defeat, "not because of what anyone else did."
The former Massachusetts governor refused place blame on Christie, who some Republicans say elevated Obama in his embrace of the president in the wake of the storm.
Romney said his inability to win over black and Hispanic voters--and the damage done by those disastrous "47 percent" comments--ultimately derailed his White House bid.
Ann Romney, though, pointed the finger at the fourth estate. It was not just the campaigns fault," Ann Romney said. "I believe it was the media's fault as well, in that he was not being given a fair shake--that people werent allowed to really see him for who he was. ... Im happy to blame the media.
She added: I totally believe at this moment, if Mitt were there in the office, that we would not be facing sequestration right now."

“Romney is hard to figure.”
Think you hit on it. “He never hung out with a garage band.”
Romney couldn’t connect with the average voter. He isn’t comfortable in crowds. He is great behind the scenes helping the less fortunate, but, like most of us, isn’t comfortable talking about it.
Romney can blame his campaign, but I’d respect him more if he also excoriated the media, the illegal democrat votes, and the lying, sleazy character assassination of the Barky campaign.
It wasn’t the 47% comment that lost it for him. It was not telling the American people that the Left can only win by viciously destroying any opponent with lies, because they can’t win with their agenda. And then not countering those lies head on.
The Republican vote for Romney in Arkansas was actually higher (even adjusting for population growth) than Bush’s Arkansas vote in 2004.
The Republican vote for Romney was down .03% percentage points in Mississippi compared to McCain.
The whole “Christians won’t vote for a Mormon” thing seems like a total non-factor.
Yep, they got what they wanted, their dream candidate, and he managed to lose an election that was impossible to lose, he was every bit as lame as we were telling them, Mitt had only won a single election in his life, and he was driven from that office with rejection of reelection, and with 34% approval.
To this day, no one really knows what his 20 years of running for office has been about.
A challenge too big? Wasn’t it conservatives who led that top to bottom butt kicking of the Democrats in 2010 when Republicans won back the House and were winning state and local elections? I realize those were congressional elections with a much lower turnout but the establishment wasn’t responsible for that awesome night back in November of 2010. With all due respect, I’m getting tired of this excuse that conservatives can’t topple the establishment. Conservatives are the only thing keeping the GOP afloat and yet they act as if they’re powerless.
The reality is that one cannot split the President. I fully admit he has a stellar business record. But we cannot vote for Mit Businessman and not Mit Gay Abortion Gun grabber.
You vote for one, you get the other and all that implies.
No there will never be another Reagan and Christ isn’t going to run either. Flawed people are and not even Reagan was perfect. But this isn’t a case of Romney being 80%. Romney wasn’t 50% even if you split social and financial issues 50-50.
His election meant abortion with Repub/Conservative support, homosexualization with Repub/Con support, gun grabbing with Repub/Con support and more.
I am not willing to do like recent freepers said and trade the life of a child for some POS moderate’s vote. And if that means another dem gets elected, the result is on their head, not mine as I am not donning the pom poms and excusing my actions.
Usually the nominee doesn't win a majority of primary votes because there are so many candidates.
And Romney did win a share of voters who describe themselves as conservatives.
If there'd been one superior conservative candidate he or she could have swept the others aside and Mitt Romney wouldn't have won, but there wasn't so he did.
But would Gingrich step aside for Santorum or Paul? or Santorum step aside for Paul or Gingrich? Was any of those candidates really top-notch?
And if Gingrich was the nominee wouldn't people be saying right now that he lost because he wasn't a true conservative?
Obama would have had no defense and the press could not have defended him.
Low-information left-wing voters don't bother turning out for off year elections, as you note.
They do turn out for Presidential elections. I assure you that the strategies and candidate types of 2010 may work for 2014, but they will fail in 2016.
Indeed, they need to go away. Like loser McCain,
I never want to hear from Obama- again.
I agree with your statement completely. Romney should have pounded Obama on the things he has said and done, or lack thereof. Since Obama has such a big ego, I would have started there - go after his shortcomings and make him feel insignificant. We saw that in the first debate and Romney made Obama look like an idiot (which is not hard to do cause the guy is an idiot). If he had kept that momentum going, he probably would have won. McCain made the exact same mistake.
The election was stolen from Romney by massive in your face voter fraud..
And what does Romney say about it!??. (( OH! WELL! ))..
Proof: that he knew beforehand this would be the case..
and also explains (HIM) walking on eggs at the debates..
Obama not only told boldfaced lies but then lied about the lies.. with more lies.. for THREE YEARS..
And the WORD LIE refused to come out his lips..
He PROTECTED the Liar in Chief.. SHIELDED HIM.. from being OUTTED..
Thank God Romney is NOT President.. the stink of the lies is building up NOW..
America is getting punished properly by OBAMA.. as they(WE) deserve..
75,000,000 murdered babies cry out for justice..

Yeah...
All the way to the bank!
He wanted his campaign to be inoffensive. Instead, it became uninspiring.
Really it didn't make a difference. Those 47% never voted for Bush either back in '00 and '04. Bush had to run the table on the remaining 53% and he barely squeaked out.
I don't think a Republican is going to win a election anytime soon unless WW3 or some sort breaks out.
uh oh wrong lesson
I, for one, thought he WAS authentic!!!
An authentically deceived believer in a heretical religion.
THAT's why I didn't vote for him!
Someone shiowing that much lack of discernment sure does NOT need to be Leader of the Free World!
Are you suggesting then we get another moderate who will say the right things as the presidential nominee in 2016? Haven’t we been down that road before? We have not had a true conservative as the nominee since Ronald Reagan and the prospective field for 2016 doesn’t look like it will field one either. What is it exactly then you think will yield a winning Republican candidate in 2016?
It’s not just the fault of the establishment GOP, Rove or Mitt the Twit, it is also the fault of anybody out there who sat out the election and did not vote for whatever stupid reason. He would not have been a clone of der Fuehrer; no Reagan, but not a steaming pile of obama.
Thanks to all of you “concience” and “never a mormon” non-voters out there; this is your fault too. Nitwits.
Just another GOP Establishment, whining, loser.
May we PLEASE nominate a Conservative next time?
