After months of scandal, defiance and excuse-making, Santa Clara County Supervisor George Shirakawa Jr.'s political career came crashing down Friday, as the District Attorney's Office charged the veteran politician with five felonies including perjury and misappropriation of public funds that likely will land him behind bars.
In a dizzying succession of events, just hours after charges were filed, the 51-year-old supervisor announced he will plead guilty March 18 to deceiving his donors and constituents. He then immediately resigned his post. Shirakawa, who earlier accused his critics of being biased against him because he is overweight and an Oakland Raiders fan, on Friday blamed depression and a gambling addiction for his crimes.
The District Attorney's Office investigation concluded that Shirakawa gambled away more than $100,000 in political and public funds over the past five years -- a pattern of "prolonged deception" aided by a secret slush fund, untraceable cash, forged signatures and false and perjured campaign filings. Shirakawa's agreement to plead guilty to five felonies, seven misdemeanors and 10 violations of the state's Political Reform Act will mean he will never again be able to hold public office in California. He faces more than $70,000 in fines and the prospect of "substantial jail time," according to the District Attorney's Office, which is recommending a one-year sentence. The former chairman of the public safety and justice committee was booked and released from the Sheriff's Office on Friday morning. He is likely to lose his pension, and Rosen would not say whether his office's work on the case was fully concluded.

A DEMOCRAT CROOK!!!! Wow!! As rare as hen’s eggs!!!
Why should his constiuents be surprised? It is what all Democrats do...
Races for Board of Supervisor or City Council in California are generally “non-partisan,” and political affiliation is not listed on the ballot. That being said, had the candidate been a registered Republican, conservative, or a Tea Party ally, the San Jose Toxic Mercury Snooze would have made damned sure that this was known to the readers.
Just like Jesse Jackson Jr., this pud wants to deflect responsibility to “untreated addictions.” I am about at the point where I wonder if there are ANY truly honest politicians/government employees left irrespective of party. Every day, we are treated to another JJJR/Shirakawa who’s been finally caught after years of abusing their office.
I’m gonna chime in here, and tell everyone that you need to get on the ball and elect a constitutional sheriff. Now.
When I was in local government, our elected, pro-2nd amendment constitutional sheriff initiated numerous investigations against liberal rats in local government. His investigations resulted in throwing a number of rats in state prison from everything from embezzlement to misappropriation of public funds. Female rats especially love dipping their mitts into the public till and stealing money.
You can bet the farm that if you have a liberal rat in local government, he is more likely than not stealing your money.
Elect a constitutional sheriff and start throwing these thieves in prison. With a constitutional sheriff, you can:
1. Investigate rats.
2. Buy surplus military equipment. (We bought our sheriff a landing craft in case the bridge fell down.)
3. Form a 2,000 man armed auxiliary deputy battalion for “emergencies.”
Get to work, people, if you want a safe neighborhood and start taking back your country.
and if it was "insubstantial jail time" it would probably be being taunted a second time. Mother of God. Unless that "one year" is a typo, how can a sentence like that be published without a feeling of shame or even mild embarrassment?
1 year = "substantial"?
When fat Jimmy Dimora, the corrupt head of the Cuyahoga County Democrat party, he used virtually the same excuse, with a slight variation.
He claimed people were out to get him because he was fat and an Italian... He's still living on public largesse, except now it's from prison.
Shirakawa,?...Thought them’s Injuns. New knowledge every day, I guess.
Yet, Christie has a 74% approval rating.
His pernicious dandruff made him do it.
