GOP Elites and the Abolition of Marriage - Republicans join push for gay Roe v. Wade.
American Spectator ^ | 2.28.13 | JEFFREY LORD

Well, this is helpful.

A clutch of Republican elites have run to the Supreme Court demanding the judiciary shut off debate on gay marriage.

The story has predictably been front page news at the New York Times and in the world of the liberal media, the Times leading with this:

More than two dozen Republicans — including a top adviser to Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, and a former congresswoman who made banning same-sex marriage her signature issue — have added their names to a legal brief urging the Supreme Court to declare that gay couples have a constitutional right to wed.

The brief comes as the White House is considering whether to weigh in on the same-sex marriage case; at this point, the Republicans who signed the document are taking a more expansive stance than President Obama, who favors same-sex marriage but has said he would leave it to the states, as opposed to making it a constitutional right.

The list of Republicans on the brief now tallies more 100, organizers say. It now includes Beth Myers, who ran Mr. Romney’s 2008 campaign and was a senior adviser to him in 2012, and Marilyn Musgrave, a retired Colorado congresswoman who was once rated the most conservative member of the House by the American Conservative Union.

Ms. Musgrave, who lost her bid for a fourth term in 2008, was an unsuccessful sponsor of a constitutional amendment to bar same-sex couples from marrying; she once warned that if gay couples were allowed to wed, “the next step is polygamy or group marriage.”...

This is an aside, but it kills me that gays are soooooo determined to get marriage rights when as far as I can tell, none of them actually want to be married (at least the men; lesbians seem to be a trifle more inclined toward settling down). I used to work in theater and knew a lot of gay men, and have kept up with some of them via social media. Only one out of the whole bunch is in a “permanent relationship,” but I am even skeptical about his because he just got married last year, and none of them seem to stay in the same relationship for more than a couple of years, tops. They love to trumpet their new honey and go on at length about “my man” and “my husband” but then in a few months their relationship status has quietly changed from “in a relationship” to “single.” The only longterm “married” gay guys I’ve ever seen are those on sitcoms.

....Does anybody remember what the Democrats did at their 2012 convention ??? First they eliminated any mention of the word GOD...and when they thought twice about doing that they reintroduced the resolution what happened ? They booed God..thrice..That resolution was rammed through just like the Affordable Health Care Act ...That’s a wedge issue within the democrat party.which was not exploited by Roves RINOS and GOPES and the Republicans generally to this day. To properly describe that episode .Its the marriage of the radical and democrat into the hyphenated Demo-Com union.

Was that fact used in any of the material Rove’s RINOS spewed forth during the 2012 Romney or US senate races his group of GOPES (Government Ofthe People Elite Snobs) used on their hit list ? I like using that acronym because it rhymes with dopes.

Maybe the sequester can shut down divorce courts.

Gay marriage has never been about people actually getting married. It’s about forcing the society to accept homosexuality.

Key Romney aides back gay marriage; social conservatives not surprised

One notable thing about the brief is that the list of signers includes several top officials from the Romney presidential campaign. Mitt Romney strongly opposed gay marriage during the 2012 race. Signing the brief now in support of gay marriage are Beth Myers, perhaps Romney’s closest aide in the campaign; Ben Ginsberg, the campaign’s influential lawyer; David Kochel, the campaign’s main strategist in Iowa (where Romney worked hard to win the support of Republicans for whom traditional marriage is a key issue); Katie Biber, the campaign’s general counsel; Lee Rudofsky, the deputy general counsel; and Alex Lundry, a top tech official in the campaign.

[...]

Romney campaign insiders say gay marriage was never much of an issue in the campaign. Aides knew that Romney had staked out a position opposed to gay marriage, and those aides do not recall any discussions trying to persuade Romney to change his mind. Of course, had Romney been elected president, some of those aides now expressing support of gay marriage would likely have ended up in powerful positions in the White House and the Romney administration.

Ya hafta. “Ms.” is the New York Times standard usage, not what she calls herself. And as people have already noted, she didn't sign the appeal. Here's the reporter's pitifully lame excuse.

That was well done!

The left has mastered this tactic of false attribution in the service of cultural marxism. Never give the left the benefit of good faith or the corollary of honest mistake.
