It is not without a bit of irony that, in the 40 years since the explosion of the Watergate story, Bob Woodward would again be under attack from the White House for trying to tell the truth. But this time the attack is coming from a Democrat.
While Barack Obama may not share the Nixon pedigree, he and his White House are the closest thing to the Nixon regime of any that we have seen since then -- both in the extent of their paranoia and their willingness to suppress the truth and push the boundaries of law.
In my lifetime, in over 40 years in national politics, Mr. Obama is the only president who comes close to rivaling Richard Nixon for fundamental disingenuousness.

The “nattering nabobs of negativism”.
Seems more like the closest thing to Nero.
Nixon's sanity
Carter's smarts
Clinton's morals
True - too many don’t realize Nixon was a lover of America. The deal took him down because the same folks who bred the current Nanny-State mentality and love of all things governmental, are the same Lefties who hated the government and protested on college campuses.
Nixon had a problem with Watergate. The media hated him for exposing communists in government earlier in his career. Does anybody really think that Clinton, Obama, Johnson, Carter or even the Bushs’ were Sunday school students? They all had their little clandestine operations. Nixon was a damn good president. He should have burned the tapes, but he loved the country.
Actually, I do not see any foreign country, friend or foe that has anything but contempt for our Dear Leader. Therefore, contempt for the disUnited States.
Our friends do not trust us
Our enemies do not fear us.
My guess is, it will take at least a generation (maybe two) to repair the damage caused by this bunch. Both foreign and domestic damage.
Hey!
Nixon has two things going for him that Obama can only lie about: Nixon was a U.S. Navy officer during WW2, and was born here of native parents.
Obama’s mysterious birth in Hawaii, with Connecticut Social Security NUMBERS (yes, plural), his proven foreign student credentials at Occidental College, his mysteriously non-existent law forms that make legal the name change from Soetero to Obama ... never mind all the crap, poor leadership, and his love with avowed Communists.
oh no he is not he is so much worse in so many ways.
nixon ended that horrific vietnam war, obama is making wars everywhere
‘zackly.
I beg to differ with Pat Caddell (a Democrat). Nixon was not a Muzzie lovin commie. He did not try to destroy the economy and install a communist dictatorship. He did not try to pit blacks agains’t whites. Nixon was actually eligible to be president and did not seal his records to hide fraud. He didn’t finance his campaign with illegal foreign funds. He was nothing like Obama. Nothing at all like him. The analogy is ridiculous.
Nixon’s crime of letting some of his guys sneak into DNC headquarters and spy on them was wrong and had he just admitted it early on and apologized he would never have been removed from office. It pales in comparison with the unconstitutional actions of Barack Obama.
Sorry Pat you are busted on this one.
Clinton did something worse--he lied under oath. But the media was on his side so the Senate went through a sham of a trial.
Nixon's worst mistakes were to put two liberals on the Supreme Court (although he seems to have thought they were conservatives).
As I recall, 65 people were convicted of felonies in Watergate. I think it is truly naive to think that the laundered money was only used once, to obstruct justice in the Watergate burglary. One need not praise Nixon in order to point out the failings of Obama.
Given that Nixon was impeached and forced to resign based on what was known from the tapes, one can only imagine the seriousness of whatever motivated Nixon to erase 18 minutes.
Again you cannot equate Nixon to Obama. What Nixon did was wrong but its like stealing apples vs. murder.
We have an all in one trifecta here.
Thanks for the link/ping, neverdem.
did a lot of work as a vendor for CREEP back in '72 ... got stiffed for most of it
