Look I am a US Govt(DoD) Employee and we have known about all of this for the better part of 6 month. If these Fecal Matter HEADS did plan during this time then SWIVE THEM! I have it planned out until Sept.

A FReeper was voicing his concerns over losing 1 day a week from work. Most replies were  - shall we say - not too sympathetic.

Elections have consequences.

I won't say what military base I work at,but today my office was briefed about the impending sequestration. There were a few interesting points to come out of the meeting.

1. You have to take at least 8 hours a week LWOP (leave without pay). You cannot use sick or annual leave on those days off. You cannot take more then 30 hours a week because then you'd be able to apply for unemployment and the federal government is ensuring we can't utilize that avenue to supplement our income. So they take us but prevent us from taking from them. Smart.....

2. No more credit time, comp time, or overtime. If, in the performance of your job you're responsible for monitoring contractors, those contractors have to leave or you leave them unsupervised. Just imagine the legal entanglements that are soon to arise.

3. We have to take 176 hours, or 22 days, off with no pay (which we will NOT get back for all you who have been saying otherwise) between April 25 and September 22. If the sequester lasts longer and we end up taking more than 30 days of sequester then mandatory RIFs will take place and people will start losing their jobs.

That's the news as I have it now. I'll post more as it comes available. I'm going to bed, I can hardly keep my eyes open but I had to post this for all to see.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here, but isn’t their benefits, pay and retirement packages better than the commercial sector?

Feel bad that they have to take a cut. However, I still do not understand why they are taking a cut when al that is being cut is future growth.

FACTOIDS TO DEAL WITH IN THIS STORY: Mantua is outside the Beltway; the houses are assessed for tax purposes at far higher than their current market value; this development was built on top of an old hazardous chemical dump site; the people they interviewed are seasoned federal employees with 30 to 40 years on the job, and those jobs require Graduate level degrees and experience.

When I moved to Springfield about 5 miles away almost all the residents of Mantua were Conservative Jews who built their community synagogue nearby so they could walk to prayers on the Sabbath. The hazmat problem was found later and the value of the properties fell into the dumper ~ and it's never recovered. I wouldn't live there on a bet ~ it's not risk free although the remaining deposits are supposed to be capped, or not likely to bubble up unless we have an earthquake ~ we had an earthquake last year!

Didn't you wonder why all the people who live there seem to have East Asian surnames?

BTW, this area gets hit by tornadoes with some regularity, and the durecho last Spring tore out all the large trees.

The big deal is you can commute to your job on public transportation in under an hour ~ or by car in just over an hour ~ but parking will be a problem.

A lot of private-sector folks weren’t given the luxury of a pay cut or a one-day-per-week furlough. They were simply shown the door....

That is what I heard from the Govies at the base where I am a contractor.

I understand that the Union Pukes are really up in arms because they cannot take all of the days off together so they can collect unemployment. Boo...Friggin'...Hoo!

So, other than the FLSA why didn't employers simply whack workers one day a week so they could keep more employees employed?

The federales, except for USPS, are not covered by all the provisions of FLSA ~ it's a different world.

I just wonder who issued the talking points memo to Federal employees, telling them to fan out onto the internet to post about “take home pay” when attempting to sway us private sector yahoos? Go back through the agitprop posted by Federal employees on FR alone, it’s uncanny, practically lockstep. You’d get the impression that $24,000 a year is their gross salary instead of their net. Then, there’s “per pay period,” another attempt to mislead. “Per week” is actually easier to type and has the benefit of accuracy.

But I bet all the welfare and food stamps go out on time.
I do feel bad for the people who will be short pay if they are working but next time they may just need to pay a little more attention to who they are voting for.

The work challenged morons all need their checks cut off for a few days. It may instigate some of them into getting a job.

Couldn't afford to? Bankruptcy? Two things Fed employees never have to face. So you are correct in that "it's a different world."
