SEFFNER -- A sheriff's deputy plucked a man from an expanding sinkhole, but neither was able to save the man's brother from being sucked into the rubble, authorities said.
Early Friday, authorities said the site at 240 Faithway Drive had become too unstable to continue rescue efforts and the focus would instead shift to a recovery operation.
The sinkhole opened late Thursday in the home's backyard, swallowing one of the home's four bedrooms.
Someone called 911, and a deputy reportedly found Jeremy Bush trying to pull his brother, Jeffrey, out of the hole when he arrived.
The deputy pulled Jeremy from the growing hole.
But Jeffrey Bush, 36, disappeared into the rubble.

It happened in Florida, so I don’t think Bloomberg gets a say in it.
“it has proven somewhat common for sinkholes to open in Central Florida and swallow cars and houses”
Typical media, Ive lived in Fl since 1969. These sink holes usually take days or weeks to get to the point where they will swallow a home or car. It’s not like an earthquake where it happens all of a sudden. I don’t pretend to be an expert and maybe this one did open up all at once but it doesn’t sound like the usual scenario.
Also, it’s not just central Fl, it happens all over FL.
Look for libs to laugh because it happened to the ‘Bush family.’
God please comfort the man who was trying to rescue his brother. Have mercy on the man who was buried alive.
My kids would just erect a small, inexpensive monument over the first pile of dirt I was buried under.

I can’t imagine the horror that must have been. Like the mothers whose children were pulled out of their arms by floodwaters or a tornado.
I think the grace and love of God, together with the hope of being reunited in Heaven, would be all that would get a person through something like that. So Lord, please give this family everything they need to get through this sorrow. Amen.
I don’t want to be a scold, but this man lost his brother in a freak event and a certain portion of the comments here make me sick. My little brother died from cancer ten years ago at age 49 and there was nothing funny about it. I think about him every single day of my life.
Apparently he was sleeping directly above the hole and his bedroom floor collapsed, although the rest of the house remained standing.
Do sinkholes in FL usually appear after heavy rainfall?
Do sinkholes in FL usually appear after heavy rainfall?
I do believe that could be a contributing factor
Wouldn’t it be easier to simply outlaw sinkholes?

“Hi. My name is Boris, and I sell bi-lingual caution tape.”
Looks like the ‘ol F150 might need a pan gasket!

Two popsicle sticks made into a cross, JR? ... quick n’easy.
But we have bath salts, alligators, poisonous snakes, and lots of sexual predators...
tragic
Yep.
Many things can be joked about; but posters need to think like a reasonable adult at the appropriate times.
As a southerner I have listened to the vilest snottiest more arrogant smears one could imagine for a so called conservative forum
really we are all here for a couple of things:
News of Interest
The option to spout off about it to feel like we are doing something whilst we often feel impotent about our country in decline
but probably most decent folks here have their circle of posters they like and follow and probably know personal info about and just share some parts of their lives together through this association...this is likely the main reason that keeps folks here
the smartassed callous stuff is probably male...younger single cubs just showing off
the forum is overwhelmingly made up of middle and older women at home...many divorced or widowed...I don't see them showing out like this
anyhow...they will call it gallows humour while totally ignorant of what that term really is...where I am from we call it “tacky”
