You’re welcome, Cindy. There will be at least two more posts of Richard Clayderman over the weekend. There will be more to follow next weekend, as well.

Flag Raising on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, 23Feb1945 As depicted at the Marine Corps War Memorial, Arlington, Virginia
_________________________________________________________________________________________
The raising of that flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next five hundred years. James V. Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy; 23 February 1945
"By their victory, the 3rd, 4th and 5th Marine Divisions and other units of the Fifth Amphibious Corps have made an accounting to their country which only history will be able to value fully. Among the Americans who served on Iwo Island, uncommon valor was a common virtue." Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, U.S. Navy

THE FLAG-RAISERS:
______ Sgt. Michael Strank, USMC_______Cpl. Ira H. Hayes, USMC_________Cpl. Rene Gagnon, USMC
____________ Cpl. Harlan Block, USMC______Pfc. Franklin Sousley, USMC_______PM/2 John Bradley, USN
Semper Fidelis to the gallant Marines and Corpsmen who fought their way to Victory and Everlasting Glory on Mt. Suribachi!

A man named Johnny Pacheco brought syncopation into the New York Latin music scene in the 60s. That is why I like the Salsa so much but ironically, I do not like Dixieland Jazz. :-)

Before World War II, “Martha” was a staple at the Met. It’s pretty much disappeared from the repertory since then. Nelson Eddy sings the big A-flat aria in the Disney cartoon from the Thirties about a whale who sang at the Met.

By 1900, the wealth generated by Maple Leaf Rag permitted John Stark to pull up stakes in Sedalia and move to St. Louis, where he founded a music publishing company.
Scott Joplin followed and got married.
Three pieces written in the interim were published in 1901.
Joplin: Peacherine Rag
Augustan Club Waltz
The Easy Winners
I should note on a personal basis that some of these numbers make me nostalgic for an era I never saw. Strange, isnt it?

This is another aria on which I spent much time and effort when in voice training. I have always been fond of Pavarotti's rendition. My score has it both in Italian and German - an entirely different effect in German - I prefer the Italian.
