This weeks Static discusses the police shooting of Lily the border collie, and the training program and potential legislation that were prompted by that tragedy.
Mark and Cindy Boling werent available for comment last night as Static was being written, but I spoke at length with Cindy Boling this morning and she remains upbeat despite all shes been through.
Imagine unloading groceries at your house and a police officer approaches you on your property. Hes responding to a routine copper theft call but ends up at the wrong address yours.
Your dog (who is like a child to you) barks at the officer, who pulls his gun and shoots your pet in the back. Then you watch it bleed to death.

Sqt. (Mr. Ed) Schultz shot and killed his own dog.
How do these psychopaths get badges let alone keep them?
Officer Jack Boots would have been carried from my property in a bag. With a bit of luck, I could have beaten him to the draw.
They get them because they are willing to enforce any law, no matter how unconstitutional. Just like a proper jack booted thug.
And people wonder why I do not want to have anything to do with cops.
Steroids plus a jack-boot mentality.
Long ago the cops primary goal was go home alive. Now it is to go home without a scratch and they are trained to kill anything that threatens that goal.
This is really sad and unnecessary. I know that a lot of cops are trained to act for their own safety and they consider every dog hostile, but they should have better judgment. I have 4 dogs that bark like crazy when anyone comes to the house, but they wouldn’t hurt anyone and I could never forgive someone for shooting at them.
Hes responding to a routine copper theft call but ends up at the wrong address yours.
Only the police and military can be trusted with guns.
This was over a scrap metal theft and the cop wasn’t even at the right address. If they’re afraid of the dog then they should stay off the property. Get a warrant, too.
The organizations actions to do other than the standard “Justified” really counts here.
Looks like a killer to me.
The irony is that you get a felony if you shoot the cop’s dog, and it’s treated just like you shot a human cop. But when he shoots your dog, he’s out $20 if he’s found to be in the wrong (big “IF”, titanic “IF”). I court, it’s treated just like he broke your vase from Pier 1.
“(who is like a child to you)”
Yep. Dog shouldn’t have been shot. Yep, the officer needs to be punished.
Nope, your dog is not like a child to you. I’ve buried a dog and I’ve buried a child. Not the same.
Prosecute the perpetrator for shooting a DOG. Leave the hyperbole.
There was a situation last August, I believe in the Pittsburg area, where a cop demanded access to a private citizens property. That citizen asked if the cop had a warrant and when he was told ‘no’, refused to allow him access to the property.
The cop called his chief who told him to kill the barking dog on the property. The cop, I believe, killed the dog and the citizen then killed the cop with a 12 gauge blast to the chest.
I believe we will start to see more reactions like this to dog-killing cops.
Sad.....RIP little fella over the Rainbow Bridge ):
Good for the Police Chief to institute a training program on how to deal with animals. At least something positive came out of this sad story.
George Hitcho - he’s in jail now.
Family dog shot by police on Christmas Eve.
Another one where the police trespassed on private party, (the wrong house) and killed the family dog.
