The 60th vote: Republican Richard Shelby to vote for cloture on Hagel; Update: Deb Fischer too? posted at 2:01 pm on February 21, 2013 by Allahpundit And so, after days of accusations about what Hagel did or didnt say at Rutgers Israeli control of the State Department, and despite the nominees refusal to let reporters pick through his archives, this guys actually gaining votes in the Senate rather than losing them.
I understand the argument that the president deserves deference in his cabinet picks, even if I dont agree with it in this case. But if were going to cave, can we at least not sugarcoat Hagels incompetence? This is pure garbage from Shelby:

The pre-tea party Republicans stabbing common sense in the back yet again.
sickening
Let me guess....he's not up for re-election til 2016. Johann is supporting Hagel, too. Johann retiring after this term. Why am I not surprised at how these turncoats (continue) to operate?
I knew Shelby was not to be trusted. I’ve been saying this for years.
Ms. Fis(c)her, not sure of the spelling, probably fears there would be hell to pay from irate Cornhuskers if she voted to block Hagel.
Hagel is not particularly liked in Nebraska. That’s why he quit. If Fischer votes for cloture I’d bet money it’s because the R leadership told her she’ll do it or never get appointed to anything.
The 20th Amendment says that if someone “fails to qualify” to be President, they cannot “act as President”. The HI state registrar has indirectly confirmed that Obama has no legally-verifiable birth facts and thus could not have qualified. Congress disobeys the 20th Amendment if they allow an up-or-down vote of ANYBODY nominated by Barack Obama, because the only person Constitutionally able to nominate ANYBODY at this point is Joe Biden.
I called both Mike Johanns and Deb Fischer and told them that. I hope everybody else will do the same with their Senators.
Without searching, which state is he?
IMHO I think Obama wants Hagel to do to the DoD what Obama has already done to NASA.
As a party, the GOP is committing suicide. The shear weight of the Obama Administration in a second term is breaking the weaker reeds and, come 2014, the GOP likely is to be blown away by the Communist, Socialist, Marxist tide. If that happens, the last two years of the Obama second term will assure that the names of each of these GOP quisings will be chizzled on the tombstone of the USA.
The Senate, in the end, is a Go Along, Get Along club. Hagel is “one of their own” and that’s all that matters.
What’s sad is that all the hooplah before was just showboating. It seems like one crazy statement after another that Hagel has made, and a poll out yesterday showing Hagel’s negatives are skyrocketing, and now all of a sudden these Republicans are ready to rubberstamp him?
We have no opposition party in America anymore. No accountability, just giving Obama everything he wants is all that matters.
Alabama
He can nominate whoever he wants, doesn’t mean we have to give horrible choices cloture.
They are sellouts. No guts. They just can’t believe what is actually going on around them, they willingly refuse and they sell out and cave in. They just can’t bring themselves to take the hard road we want them to take.
They truly have abandoned conservatives and in particular, Christian conservatives.
We are on our own. Probably been that way in reality for awhile. Really seeing it now though.
Unbelievable.
Hope he’s gone in his next election.
and then on final vote he’ll get 90
Over 90 percent of these folks are finger in the wind, self serving business as usual politicians.
These politicians can vote for Hagel giving their 2014 election colleagues and Rubio (running for president) cover to vote No while the nomination goes through anyway.
Remember that when you start receiving the the pleas begging for money to assist their mid-term reelection campaigns so they can continue to screw you over.
FBI files or do the Senators fear something else?
