his State of the Union address, President Obama doubled down on his gun-control proposals, again demanding that Congress ban so-called “assault weapons” and “high capacity magazines.” This is not a surprise. What has been a surprise are the increasingly open calls for defiance from gun owners, state legislatures, and local law enforcement. If the president’s proposals become law, he may move the country into turbulent waters we haven’t seen in many years.
Gun control has long been a controversial issue in American politics. However, there are three aspects to this issue that make this more volatile than other hot topics such as taxes, foreign policy, or abortion:
1) The strongest advocates of each side hold fundamentally irreconcilable positions.
On one hand, committed gun-control advocates say: “No one should be allowed to own certain weapons.” On the other hand, equally committed gun-rights advocates say: “No way in hell are we giving up these weapons.”
2) Ordinary Americans have declared their willingness to disobey the law.
New York state has already passed laws similar to Obama’s proposals. Gun owners there are now organizing a campaign of open civil disobedience, daring state officials to “come and take” their rifles. State officials already acknowledge that they will be unable to enforce the new law.
3) Local law enforcement officials and state governments have also vowed civil disobedience.
Over 280 sheriffs and eight state sheriffs’ associations have vowed to protect citizens’ Second Amendment rights against new gun laws.
The Utah Sheriffs’ Association used unusually strong language:
We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.
Similarly, several state legislatures are considering laws to stop federal officials from enforcing new gun laws

Indeed, widespread civil disobedience will be the test for survival of the nation.
If the president doesn’t respect the law, people are beginning to ask themselves “why the hell should I?”
Both Obama and Holder have stated publicly that they will not enforce certain laws.
Sheeeese, we’re becoming a land of scofflaws.
Anti-gun laws will be treated the same way Gov. Brown treated Prop. 8, or the way Obama treated DOMA. Brown/Bama set the standard for treating laws they don’t like.
Simply Ignore them.
Just remember guys/girls Demorats/Rino’s running for reelection in 2014 we have to hold their feet to the fire if we hope to change things. I’m not giving up my AR for nobody.
Well our local sheriff, here in Alabama, is a dimwit. I have known him since we were kids. He is an big hunger. Goes to Alaska and such places too hunt. But, I can guarantee you, if he could take all our guns, he would. We have had words over it and he ain’t happy with what people around here are telling him. He wants our guns, so he can kiss Obama’s butt (he has been to the WH and met with Obama recently with other sheriffs, etc.) and he wants to toe the party line. Mostly, he is a lying hypocrite who lies to cover his lies. I don’t vote for him. I hope this election, since the entire county government and most of Alabama’s government is republican, we can get rid of his lying behind.
There is another factor in the issue that has emerged over the last 5 years.
Guns, especially quality guns or particular types of guns, are increasing in value, and are therefore an appreciating asset in the hands of their owners.
This creates an incentive on the part of the owner to hold onto his assets and protect them. It makes government one stink more odious than before, and inclines the people to be non-compliant.
All of this suggests that government no longer serves the people, and is no longer neutral toward the people.

We have more laws than one individual can know.
We need a comprehensive, common sense reform of all laws and gov't regulations.

I seriously doubt it - for all the tough talk, 99.99% of the people when faced with the option of obeying the (illegal) laws, or having some sort of confrontation with a government hell-bent on taking away their rights, will rollover in 30 seconds or less and go back to the couch, eating Doritos, drinking their 2-Liter bottles of soda and watching mindless drivel on TV.
There will be some whack-job that will have a shoot-out with the cops, get killed and will immediately be labeled a poster-boy for the Tea-party or NRA by the complicit media.

I believe that a “country sheriff” is the highest level of “elected” law enforcements. In many ways, the county sheriffs are the most powerful, within their jurisdictions, of any law enforcement.
Seems that this leve either has the very best of officials or the very worst. Yours appears to be an example of the worst.
Hopefull, the good people of your country will peacefully depose this petty tyrant in the next election.
Resistance to a enemy of the constitution is not “disobedience”, it is civic duty.
You just put the cart before the horse.
Obama WANTS civil disobedience to his gun laws if passed...If it is intense enough, he will call for martial law and invite UN troops in...All this in order to bypass the 2016 election and stay in office and in control....

I agree with your first statement that we have become sheep...I know that in regards to firearms, I know I am not willing to die to make a point. However, I disagree with you that the fight has been lost. When we can no longer vote, then the fight will have been totally lost. Until then we can throw the numbskulls out of office....and that doesn’t require killing or being killed.
Well, the nation survived 15 years of widespread civil disobedience while the 18th amendment was in effect, and it was finally ended legally. I’m hopeful that we will get through this too.
