Rather high prices for a turn in event. They consider SKS rifles to be "assault weapons".

I do not see how the Deputy Chief Schaerfl can believe that people can negotiate a deal on city property, but not exchange the cash and guns there. There is very strong preemption language in the New Mexico Constitution.

I’m really surprised as hell that anyone in Santa Fe has any guns to sell.

Let me see How stupid am I? Buy a rifle for $1500 sell for $200. Are they nuts? Maybe sell a old rusted rifle that is beyond repair for $200.00. If it is antique though it could be worth $500 to Several thousand dollars depending on how rare!!!

I don’t live in New Mexico so I suppose it is none of my business, but if my county started buying back guns I would be deeply offended that they were pissing away my tax money on junk weapons.

I don’t pay taxes so some whack-off can us it to buy junk.

If they want to let people walk into the Sherrifs office and turn in a gun that’s fine, but buying guns with my tax money so they can destroy them is just plain crazy. If they can buy guns I have an old car I would be glad to sell them so they can junk it.

round 2 p.m., when things had gotten quiet, an elderly man came in with a knapsack holding three handguns, including a well-maintained .38 that was, in Schaerfl’s view, somewhere between 60 and 80 years old. The man said he inherited the three guns from his brother-in-law, who passed away a few years ago. “I was actually going to take them up to the city dump, but when I heard I could get $150 each for them, I brought them here,” the man said with a smile.

What a doofus!

When I was in New Mexico I never made it north of Albuquerque. Now I remember why.

The program also netted two SKS-type assault guns Saturday, he said.

Apparently that was the sum total of "assault weapons" sold to the city of Fanta Se for $200 each. Someone got ripped off big time. The cheapest SKS on Gunbroker.com recently was about $450. Particular models such as good condition original Russian SKSs are going for as much as $1,500.

$100 for long guns . . . $200 for any armament considered an assault weapon

They need a gunsmith there to thread barrels and mount cheap plastic pistol grips on the way in. Raise the value of any non-functional rifle by $100 in a few minutes!
