Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper went to unusually great lengths to learn firsthand the strides the oil and gas industry has made to minimize environmental harm from fracking.
The first-term Democrat and former Denver mayor told a Senate committee on Tuesday that he actually drank a glass of fracking fluid produced by oilfield services giant Halliburton.
The fluid is made entirely of ingredients sourced from the food industry, the company says, making it safe for Mr. Hickenlooper and others to imbibe.
You can drink it. We did drink it around the table, almost rituallike, in a funny way, he told the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. It was a demonstration.
theyve invested millions of dollars in what is a benign fluid in every sense.
Sen. Al Franken, Minnesota Democrat, found humor in the governors admission and asked if the experience was part of some bizarre occult practice.
No, there were no religious overtures, Mr. Hickenlooper responded.
While some laughed at the governors statement, he brought up the incident to make a serious point: that oil and gas companies have taken major steps forward in fracking technology.

I drink fracking fluid. I bathe in fracking fluid. I cook with fracking fluid. I clean with fracking fluid. I pave my driveway with fracking fluid. I use fracking fluid on my cuts and bruises. I have sex, lubricating with fracking fluid. My pets are made out of fracking fluid. Fracking fluid rains on my house.
Fracking fluid.

Sure, he says it was OK, but I wonder if he noticed it has 3% less alcohol in it since Maker’s Mark started diluting it.

Fracking fluid is dangerous! It contains hydrogen hydroxide, which kills thousands of people every year!

It actually is Dihydrogen oxide. It is an industrial solvent used in nuclear power plants. It is a a very corrosive material which will dissolve iron and steel with prolonged exposure. It can cause sever burns in its gaseous state. Prolonged exposure will result in skin deformation, and excessive sweating and urination when ingested in large amounts. Breathing dihydrogenoxide can result in death
