Good for him, probably thought he’d go on his own terms rather than get ill or bumped off.

Little or no responsibilities.. could be wisdom..

This does not bode well. Benedict was a staunch conservative....taking on the liberals in his church.

Raymond Arroyo on CNN just said no one was expecting this resignation. NBC reported that the last pope to resign was in the year 1415.

So what does a healthy Pope do when he retires? Move to The Villages in Fla and take up golf?

I do not recall one every resigning in my lifetime. It just isn’t usually done. I am leaning towards a progressive disease that robs him of his mental facilities like Alzheimers. (vs a disease that he would die from within a shorter period of time like cancer).
To: Sub-Driver
Wow. What must it be like to replace a resigned Holy Father? And might there be secret reasons for Der PanzerKardinal’s announcement? And what exactly does one do as a “former” Pope? Do Oprah? Hang out with Lance Armstrong? Market a private-label cheese? Judge America’s Got Talent?

Stunning.
Is he not, according to the Malachi Martin prophecy, the last Pope before the final one, Petrus Romanus?
Dam! I really was hoping the end of the world as we know it wasn’t coming this year...

Yours is the first I’ve seen but I look for the same thing to be posted in “breaking news” at least 20 times in the next few days. “Pope to resign!”
